Soon after the announcement, Amazon staffers joined a Slack channel called Remote Advocacy. As of Tuesday, there were over 14,000 members. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-employees-plan-to-fight-against-return-to-office-policy-2023-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report<\/a> Business Insider<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 80% said they would begin to search for new jobs because of the policy. &#8220;This is going to be absolute chaos and make everyone&#8217;s work distracted for probably a quarter, maybe longer,&#8221; One employee complained. &#8220;It&#8217;s hard to be productive with so much uncertainty injected into our lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amazon is shifting to more traditional work arrangements as it seeks to downsize amid macroeconomic turmoil and a drop in consumer demand following the lockdown-induced recession. Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/amazon-dismisses-thousands-of-employees-in-bid-to-reduce-costs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deleted<\/a> Over 18,000 employees were hired over the last few months. The freeze was also implemented on any incremental hires to the corporate workforce.<\/p>\n<p>However, Slack channel employees still submitted petitions to the Slack channel against the return-to office policy. &#8220;We, the undersigned Amazonians, are responding by petitioning for the right to choose where to work, including remote locations,&#8221; Business Insider reports that the document was an early draft. Survey data showed that 56% of Amazon employees wanted the petition. &#8220;monthly sync-ups in the office,&#8221; 31% of respondents want to work at the office only one or two days per semaine.<\/p>\n<p>According to a survey, employees prefer remote work arrangements due to the time savings and flexibility of avoiding commutes. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/355907\/remote-work-persisting-trending-permanent.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poll<\/a> Gallup. Gallup. &#8220;has made it challenging to have confidence that employees are being productive,&#8221; According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/worklab\/work-trend-index\/hybrid-work-is-just-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study<\/a> Microsoft<\/p>\n<p>Jassy and other executives stated that lockdowns proved the importance of building meaningful relationships between team members. &#8220;It&#8217;s easier to learn, model, practice, and strengthen our culture when we&#8217;re in the office together most of the time and surrounded by our colleagues,&#8221; He wrote to employees. &#8220;When you&#8217;re in-person, people tend to be more engaged, observant, and attuned to what&#8217;s happening in the meetings and the cultural clues being communicated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Others, like Walmart and Disney have done the same. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/back-to-work-disney-employees-told-to-show-up-in-the-office-at-least-four-days-a-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pivoted<\/a> In recent weeks, they have been unable to work from their virtual offices. The former company employees must work at least twice per work week in physical offices. Employees at the latter company must work four days per week from offices, preferably between Monday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Many companies offer carveouts that allow high-performing employees to work from home. Walmart will allow some employees to work remotely while others are forced to relocate.
