The Post reported that Hennepin County District Court has been \u201cringed with concrete barriers, security fencing, and barbed wire.\u201d This is in addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/02\/18\/minnesota-ramps-up-security-for-murder-trial-of-derek-chauvin\/\">increased security<\/a> in the area, including \u201cMinneapolis police, Hennepin County sheriff\u2019s deputies, Minnesota state troopers, and the National Guard,\u201d the Post previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not going to be caught flat-footed,\u201d Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington <a href=\"https:\/\/kttc.com\/2021\/02\/17\/law-enforcement-officials-highlight-safety-plan-for-chauvin-trial\/\">told<\/a> KTTC-TV earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Post reported that Minneapolis authorities \u201chave been hatching security plans for the trial since July, when outrage over Floyd\u2019s death on May 25 while in police custody sparked massive protests worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, sought to assure residents, saying \u201cThere\u2019s going to be very high emotion on all sides of this, and we\u2019ll be prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More from the Post:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey came under fire in the wake of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/05\/28\/everything-we-know-about-the-death-of-george-floyd\/\">Floyd\u2019s police-custody death<\/a>\u00a0on May 25, when they were unable to quell protesters who clashed with police, set fires, and looted parts of the city.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chauvin is charged with killing Floyd be pressing his knee on Floyd\u2019s neck for nearly nine minutes despite his repeated pleas that he couldn\u2019t breathe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Floyd became a rallying cry against police brutality worldwide.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Frey said as many as 3,000 law enforcement personnel could be deployed \u2014 including city, county and state police \u2014 before the case goes to a jury.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u201crallying cry against police brutality\u201d resulted in numerous deaths, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/retired-police-captain-was-murdered-while-protecting-his-friends-pawn-shop-during-riots-widow-says\">including<\/a> of retired police captain David Dorn, and cost a reported billions in damage to personal and city property.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not just the courthouse that\u2019s being prepared for any unrest \u2014 the city jail and nearby City Hall are also being reinforced with fencing, barbed wire and barriers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to increased security, the city of Minneapolis is also hiring \u201csocial media influencers\u201d to combat \u201cmisinformation\u201d during Chauvin\u2019s trial, The Daily Wire\u2019s Emily Zanotti previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/minneapolis-to-hire-social-media-influencers-to-spread-city-approved-messages-during-derek-chauvin-trial\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Minneapolis City Council has unanimously approved paying six social media influencers to spread city-approved messaging and updates throughout the upcoming murder trial of former officer\u00a0Derek Chauvin, who has been charged in George Floyd\u2019s death. On Friday, the council approved $1,181,500 for communication with the community during the trial,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/minneapolis-hiring-influencers-to-spread-messaging-trial-derek-chauvin-george-floyd-death\/\">according to CBS<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Just $12,000 of that money will go to paying influencers during Chauvin\u2019s trial.
