He is accused of allegedly hiding 41 mail-in votes at his house, falsifying voter registration documents and urging residents to vote for him. Investigators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/lodi-council-member-shakir-khan-kcra-3-in-exclusive-interview-after-arrest\/42963166\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Claim<\/a>Based partly on body cam footage from police interviews, Khan registered 23 voters at his home and used his number to register 47 others to vote. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"CLmvQAIpYKeG95UPWkhVisE7J\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">And another Democrat <\/p>\n<p>Lodi City Council member Democrat Shakir Khan arrested on voter fraud charges related to 2020 Crime of the Century \u2013 stash of ballots found at his residence with fake voter registrations. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xWeWpUJy2K\">pic.twitter.com\/xWeWpUJy2K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8RealRobert\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@Real_RobN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Real_RobN\/status\/1627079983171788803?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>These charges are based on Khan&#8217;s election to the Lodi City Council District 4 seat in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>Khan faces separate criminal charges with his brother. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/lodi-city-council-member-shakir-khan-arrested-on-new-charges-as-criminal-case-moves-forward\/42940240\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Include <\/a>Illegal gambling, money laundering tax evasion and unemployment fraud are all possibilities. Khan is due to appear in court on February 21 for a second arraignment. Khan was released on Friday from jail, but must keep California safe by wearing a tracking device. <\/p>\n<p>Local news reports say it isn&#8217;t clear if Khan has. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/lodi-city-council-member-shakir-khan-arrested-on-new-charges-as-criminal-case-moves-forward\/42940240\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Resigned from city council<\/a> These are all allegations that he denies. The charges against him for election fraud remain. <a href=\"https:\/\/fox40.com\/news\/local-news\/shakir-khan\/california-city-council-member-arrested-on-suspicion-of-voter-fraud-as-previous-case-moves-forward-heres-what-we-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Severe<\/a>. Khan&#8217;s home was searched by investigators who allegedly found 41 completed and sealed mail-in ballots. This shows how easy it is to manipulate elections, even though unsupervised mail-in voting is legal. <\/p>\n<p>As before <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/18\/after-approving-mass-mail-in-balloting-california-loses-10-million-ballots-in-november-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>Mail-in ballots are a major risk of election fraud. According to the federal Election Assistance Commission data, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2020\/04\/24\/28_million_mail-in_ballots_went_missing_in_last_four_elections_143033.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">28.3 Million mail-in ballots remain unaccounted for<\/a> The following data is based on elections that were held in the country between 2012-2018. These ballots are not trackable so it is impossible to determine if they were fraudulently used. <\/p>\n<p>Third-party partisan organizers also have the opportunity to profit from such a lax system. They can harvest ballots by coaxing voters to complete their ballots in support of Democratic candidates, then taking their ballots and dropping it off at election offices. <a href=\"https:\/\/spectator.org\/it-isnt-time-to-care-who-the-republican-party-2024-nominee-is\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">They do<\/a>. Khan was allegedly involved in ballot harvesting. <a href=\"https:\/\/fox40.com\/news\/local-news\/shakir-khan\/california-city-council-member-arrested-on-suspicion-of-voter-fraud-as-previous-case-moves-forward-heres-what-we-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For District 4 residents to vote in his favor<\/a> Filling out the ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Many security flaws of mail-in voting would be fixed if all eligible voters were required to vote in person. Khan wouldn&#8217;t be able, if this were the law in Khan&#8217;s situation, to fill out 41 fraudulent mail ballots using false names and addresses, and then deliver them to be tallied. You would need to see actual people at the polls filling out all of their ballots.<\/p>\n<p>California is now the eighth state to switch to all-mail voting, despite obvious risks. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/18\/after-approving-mass-mail-in-balloting-california-loses-10-million-ballots-in-november-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approve all-mail voting<\/a> For its future elections.
