CA) had granted Tucker Carlson access, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D\u2013MS) released a statement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/speaker-mccarthy-releases-41000-hours-of-exclusive-jan-6-footage-to-tucker-carlson-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">41,000 hours Capitol surveillance footage<\/a> from the Jan. 6, 2021 \u2014 the day a crowd of people entered the U.S. Capitol, disrupting lawmakers who were meeting to certify President Joe Biden&#8217;s 2020 election victory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the Select Committee obtained access to U.S. Capitol Police video footage, it was treated with great sensitivity given concerns about the security of lawmakers, staff, and the Capitol complex,&#8221; Thompson stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Access was limited to members and a small handful of investigators and senior staff, and the public use of any footage was coordinated in advance with Capitol Police. It&#8217;s hard to overstate the potential security risks if this material were to be used irresponsibly,&#8221; He concluded.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement by Rep. Bennie Thompson (who chaired Jan6 committee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/axios?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Axios<\/a> Report <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SpeakerMcCarthy<\/a> is giving special access to Jan 6 videos to Fox host. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Vsvbei7K6J\">pic.twitter.com\/Vsvbei7K6J<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Patricia Zengerle (@ReutersZengerle) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReutersZengerle\/status\/1627808850878291970?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 20, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Fox News spokesperson confirmed\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/02\/20\/kevin-mccarthy-tucker-carlson-jan-6-riot-footage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios report<\/a>, which said excerpts will begin to air in the coming weeks, to the Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>Claiming that Carlson is a purveyor of misinformation, Thompson said McCarthy &#8220;owes the American people an explanation of why he has done so and what steps he has taken to address the significant security concerns at stake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy has not yet commented publicly on the disclosure to Carlson, but the speaker did say last month he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kevin-mccarthy-shares-best-way-to-release-january-6-tapes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">looking to release the tapes<\/a>\u00a0because of the &#8220;politicization&#8221; he believed had been fostered by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the January 6 Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The January 6 Committee did air some clips of security footage during its summer hearings last year, including one showing Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/video\/us\/politics\/100000008455630\/josh-hawley-flee-capitol-attack.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">running though a Capitol hallway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson told Axios he believes there was &#8220;never any legitimate reason&#8221; for the footage to remain secret.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMTG\/status\/1627733161026195470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in a tweet<\/a> the footage will also be available to January 6 defendants. &#8220;Americans deserve to see the truth, not a one sided narrative and unfair two tiered justice system,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMTG\/status\/1627689892162547714\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she said in another tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, another Democratic member of the January 6 Committee, Maryland&#8217;s Rep.
