These guidelines are not legally binding, but the U.S. expressed hope that other nations will adopt similar practices. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/political-declaration-on-responsible-military-use-of-artificial-intelligence-and-autonomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declaration<\/a> The U.S. published a series of recommendations that included human control over nuclear weapon decisions, senior officials at overseas arms systems using AI, clear documentation for military AI tech, and clear purposes. Also, safeguards to protect AI tech from major disasters if it fails.<\/p>\n<p>These guidelines require that preventive measures be taken. &#8220;unintended bias in military AI capabilities,&#8221; It is not clear what type of bias is being used.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The State Department hopes that all countries will support the guidelines, and not just key U.S. ally nations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to expand that to go out to a much broader set of countries and begin getting international buy-in, not just a NATO buy-in, but in Asia, buy-in from countries in Latin America,&#8221; An official from the State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenseone.com\/technology\/2023\/02\/us-woos-other-nations-military-ai-ethics-pact\/383024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Submitted<\/a> Defense One. &#8220;We&#8217;re looking for countries around the world to start discussing this \u2026 so they understand the implications of the development and military use of AI \u2026 Many of them will think \u2018Oh this is just a great power competition issue,&#8217; when really there are implications for the entire international community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These guidelines are issued as U.S. officials express concern over the development and use of AI by China and Russia.
