NORAD continues to describe the interactions as &#8220;routine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Russian planes \u2013 which included bomber and fighter aircraft \u2013 were intercepted by two F-35 fighter jets as they approached the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone, a large swath of closely-monitored airspace off the coast of the state, NORAD said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NORADCommand\/status\/1626291565306998787\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Statement<\/a> American Military News.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>Interception is when an aircraft passes next to another in order to identify it and establish communications. NORAD called it interception &#8220;escorts&#8221; As necessary, foreign aircraft must be kept out of the air defense identification zones.<\/p>\n<p>NORAD confirmed that the encounter took place on the same day. <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2023\/02\/4-russian-warplanes-intercepted-near-alaska-by-us-jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">We intercepted another group Russian warplanes<\/a> Just one day before, I was near the Alaskan ADIZ.<\/p>\n<p>The latest group consisted of TU-95 BEAR-H fighters and SU-30\/SU-35 bombers. However, it is not clear how many each aircraft made. The previous group, which included four aircraft, consisted of TU95 BEAR-H fighters and TU-95 bombers.<\/p>\n<p>NORAD has described both encounters as &#8220;routine&#8221; Unrelated to the three unidentified object recently shot down over North American airspace.<\/p>\n<p>This Russian activity was detected near air defense areas &#8220;occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat, nor is the activity seen as provocative,&#8221; NORAD added that it had prepared for the interceptions and had therefore anticipated the activity.<\/p>\n<p>Vladimir Putin, Russian President, ordered that strategic bomber aircraft make long-range patrols every day for the first time since the fall of the Soviet Union. According to NORAD, there have been six-to-seven interceptions by Russian military aircraft in North American ADIZ every year since then.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two Russian bombers were spotted.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2022\/10\/two-russian-bombers-were-intercepted-by-u-s-fighters-in-international-airspace-near-alaska-on-monday-oct-17-norad-announced-tuesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In Alaskan ADIZ intercepted<\/a>\u00a0October Before that, NORAD had tracked Russian aircraft in air defense identification zones\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2022\/09\/us-intercepts-2-russian-aircraft-near-alaska-on-9-11-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">September 11, 2022<\/a>\u00a0and encountered\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2022\/08\/russian-spy-planes-tracked-flying-near-alaska-twice-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russian spy planes in Alaskan ADIZ<\/a>\u00a0over two days in August.<\/p>\n<p>NORAD commander\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2021\/04\/us-responded-to-more-russian-warplanes-near-alaska-in-2020-than-any-year-since-end-of-cold-war-norad-commander-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen. Glen VanHerck stated it<\/a>\u00a02020 was a year of change &#8220;more Russian military flights off the coast of Alaska than we&#8217;ve seen in any year since the end of the Cold War,&#8221; adding: &#8220;Russia is trying to reassert on a global stage their influence and their capabilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to NORAD&#8217;s 2007 statistics, 15 Russian military interceptions occurred in one year. Zero was the lowest.<\/p>\n<p><em>This was a breaking story.
