Vinyl chloride, which is a carcinogen that is used in the manufacture of PVC, was released by five train cars as massive plumes dark smoke visible in eastern Ohio, and western Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>According to the White House, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/02\/17\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-deploys-additional-federal-resources-to-east-palestine-ohio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fact sheet<\/a> They would respond to a request from Gov. Mike DeWine, R-OH), and the Ohio delegation to Congress sent medical personnel and toxicologists to the Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. \u201cconduct public health testing.\u201d Staff members are expected to arrive in East Palestine on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team will support federal, state, and local officials already on the ground to evaluate individuals who were exposed or potentially exposed to chemicals and help ensure timely communications to the public,\u201d The statement was as follows: \u201cThe Biden-Harris Administration is committed to supporting the people of East Palestine every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House noted that both representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Department of Transportation were at the scene of the derailment. \u201cwithin hours\u201d The incident.
