trained on how to decipher and interpret statistics you may easily fall for their misrepresentations of the facts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Recenty, the anti-Second Amendment activist organization \u201cEverytown\u201d To do this, I used Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7137\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.03.38-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"412\" people in America\u201d They wrote just days after the school closed. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/14\/us\/michigan-state-university-shots-fired-tuesday\/index.html\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Shooting<\/span><\/a> Three students died at Michigan State University. This is a horrifying statistic that you will find hard to believe. It gives the impression that campus shootings are responsible for all of these deaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Good thing that isn\u2019t actually true.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I tried to find the data they referred to in the fine print at bottom of the image. Notably, they included no actual links or web addresses\u2014and that\u2019s probably because, as best I can tell, they don\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) Wonder Online Database does provide <a href=\"https:\/\/wonder.cdc.gov\/ucd-icd10.html\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Information<\/span><\/a> on the underlying causes of deaths, but it doesn\u2019t offer an age-based breakdown of that data:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7138\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.05.51-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.05.51-PM.png 625w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.05.51-PM-300x135.png 300w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.05.51-PM-150x68.png 150w\" \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So I kept looking. On another part of the CDC\u2019s website, I found an age-breakdown for causes of death with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/injury\/wisqars\/pdf\/leading_causes_of_death_by_age_group_2018-508.pdf\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Information<\/span><\/a> Through 2018. Everytown\u2019s image claimed their data came from 2021.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7139\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.06.55-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.06.55-PM.png 625w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.06.55-PM-300x145.png 300w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.06.55-PM-150x72.png 150w\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Still, it\u2019s hard to imagine there would be a tremendous change in causes of death over the course of three years, and the old data set indicates the leading causes of death for 15-24 year olds were unintentional injuries, suicides, and homicides (in that order).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is supported by others <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prb.org\/resources\/young-u-s-adults-vulnerable-to-injuries-and-violence\/#:~:text=Injury%20and%20Violence%20Cause%20Most,)%2C%20homicide%2C%20and%20suicide.\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Research<\/span><\/a> I found this online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7140\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.08.23-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"624\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.08.23-PM.png 624w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.08.23-PM-300x108.png 300w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.08.23-PM-150x54.png 150w\" \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These are just a few of the many tracks. It\u2019s important to remember that it is much rarer for a young person to die in general than it is an older one. It\u2019s also less likely a young person will die from an actual health issue. So, it isn\u2019t surprising at all that the leading causes of death are related to tragic events, accidents, suicides and homicides\u2014especially when you remember that younger people make riskier decisions and are far more likely to be <a href=\"https:\/\/webarchive.urban.org\/publications\/900403.html#:~:text=Adults%20between%20the%20ages%20of,be%20arrested%20for%20violent%20crime.\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Get involved<\/span><\/a> a higher rate of violent crime than any other age group. (This is because the prefrontal cortex, which controls decision making skills, isn\u2019t fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3621648\/#:~:text=The%20development%20and%20maturation%20of%20the%20prefrontal%20cortex%20occurs%20primarily,helps%20accomplish%20executive%20brain%20functions.\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Form<\/span><\/a> Up to age 25<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Does this mean that there is a mass wave of gun violence targeting youth? Hardly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This data shows that violence and injuries are responsible for less then 10% of all deaths in America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Everytown was able to alter the data to support their claim that guns pose the greatest threat to college-aged students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gun control supporters use the oldest trick in the book to pretend that there is more gun violence in the country than it actually is. This is because they lump suicide deaths in alongside homicides. More than half of Americans believe that there is more gun violence in the country. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2022\/02\/03\/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">die<\/span><\/a> Suicide is the leading cause of gun-related death. 3 percent of gun deaths are classified under the heading of \u201cother\u201d (which would also include accidents).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7141\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"329\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM.png 329w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM-170x300.png 170w, https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM-150x264.png 150w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM-300x528-1.png 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screen-Shot-2023-02-16-at-1.09.30-PM-239x420-1.png 239w\" \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Suicide is a terrible act. Those who try it with guns are more likely than those who choose other methods. It is misleading to equate these deaths with mass shootings and homicides. They aren&#8217;t the same thing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Furthermore, data doesn&#8217;t suggest that suicidal individuals simply give up when they are unable to access a gun.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Japan, for example, has the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/news\/2017\/05\/30\/national\/social-issues\/preventive-efforts-seen-helping-2016-saw-another-decline-suicides-japan-21897\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Second<\/span><\/a> While industrialized nations have the highest suicide rate, they also have the lowest suicide rates. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/magazine-38365729#:~:text=Handguns%20are%20banned%20outright.,bought%20on%20your%20last%20visit.\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Strenuous<\/span><\/a> gun controls. All handguns are prohibited. Only shotguns or air rifles are permitted. Suicide prevention is vital, but gun control does not solve the problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Everytown claims that guns are the \u2018leading\u2019 cause of death among college-aged kids they are lumping in deaths by suicide and accidental events (like a hunting accident) with homicides and mass shootings\u2014all while working to convince you there is an epidemic of the latter when, as previously pointed out, homicide is actually the third leading cause of death in this age range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These occurrences are still extremely rare in a country that has 330 million citizens, despite the fact that they have been broken down by category. Keep in mind that I was able to find data for a much wider age range than Everytown claimed (15-24 vs. 18-25) and the numbers still showed 12,044 deaths from accidental causes, 6,211 suicides and 4,607 deaths from homicides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This country does not have a gun violence epidemic. If anything, there is a mental health epidemic and those who need help the most aren\u2019t getting it because people with an agenda like Everytown are trying to use their plight to ban guns vs. expanding education and care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is fear mongering from a group determined to take away your ability of defense. It\u2019s important Americans learn to dig into data like this so we can put this kind of manipulative tactic to bed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Do you like this article?
