Jerry Nadler, a Judiciary Committee ranking member (D-NY), announced Thursday that Democrats from the committee would not attend an Arizona border hearing next Wednesday. He misleadly claimed \u201cthere was no consultation\u201d Talk to them about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Nadler, who is also a ranking member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, was joined by Rep. Pramila Japal (D\u2013WA), in a statement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Next week, Judiciary Republicans is holding their second stunt hearing about border security. Judiciary Democrats were not consulted, despite the important issue. Many of them have already pledged to attend other bipartisan congressional delegation trips.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Democrats\u2019 claim of a lack of \u201cconsultation\u201d This announcement came after Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH, the chairman of the committee, announced to Nadler (and the other Democrats) the dates for the hearing. It would be held at the border on February 1st. This is three weeks before the planned event and two weeks earlier that House rules require.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans on the committee were quick to call Nadler and Jayapal\u2019s statement \u201cfake news\u201d And shared a clip of Jordan announcing it on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\"><strong>Watch:<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Actually, there&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jim_Jordan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Jim_Jordan<\/a> inviting them to join during our first hearing! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rjLGD8mzCK\">pic.twitter.com\/rjLGD8mzCK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 House Judiciary GOP (@JudiciaryGOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryGOP\/status\/1626331289086316544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 16, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Republicans also stated that they had been communicating with Democrats for \u201cweeks\u201d about the trip and that Democrats were \u201cjust scared to face the harsh realities of the #BidenBorderCrisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A senior Republican aide told Breitbart News that committee staff had been \u201cin communication with Democrat staff about the border hearing via phone, text, and email.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the Democrats were invited to come, but apparently not one could find time to attend an official congressional hearing,\u201d the aide said, noting that \u201cDemocrats have asked if it was acceptable for them to send a staffer on the trip. How did the Democrat staffer find out about the trip if they weren\u2019t consulted?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Nadler and Jayapal suggested in their statement that Democrats would also not attend the hearing because Republicans would not have \u201cany federal government witnesses\u201d at the hearing, a detail that has not been made public by the committee or been reported anywhere yet and that serves as further evidence of \u201cconsultation\u201d between the two parties about the trip.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Nadler and Jayapal stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Instead of focusing on real solutions to a complicated problem, Judiciary Republicans will once again not hear from any federal government witnesses at their hearing, further cementing this hearing as a brazen act of political grandstanding. As a result, Democrats, who have been to the border regularly the last few years, will not attend next week\u2019s performative hearing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A second GOP source confirmed to Breitbart News the committee plans to have local officials and community members affected by the ongoing surge of illegal migration attend the hearing, which falls in line with committee Republicans\u2019 three-pronged plan to address immigration. The first prong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/01\/31\/house-judiciary-gop-readies-multi-part-immigration-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">involves<\/a> examining the \u201chuman story\u201d behind the border issues. Later hearings will undoubtedly include federal officials, as indicated by letters Jordan has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/11\/18\/exclusive-it-begins-house-judiciary-republicans-to-summon-mayorkas-for-border-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent<\/a> to the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<p>Nadler and Jayapal said Democrats will take their own border trip in March, though that trip will not function as a formal congressional hearing given the minority party does not have the power to schedule those.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News reached out to committee Democrats\u2019 press office for comment but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n<p><em>Write to Ashley Oliver at <a href=\"mailto:aoliver@breitbart.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aoliver@breitbart.com<\/a>.
