The video was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LjfxgDx9xFA&#038;feature=emb_title\">released<\/a> by a group of Berkeley mothers fighting the union&#8217;s efforts to keep schools closed.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"posts-content__category-widget md:hidden -ml-4 -mr-4 my-8 px-4 py-6 bg-gray-100\">\n<h4 class=\"mt-0 text-red-600 font-medium font-sans uppercase\">Recent Stories in Campus<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"list-none p-0\">\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/california-teachers-union-head-wants-schools-closed-just-not-his-daughters\/\"><strong>California Teachers&#8217; Union Head Wants Schools Closed, Just Not His Daughter&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/tufts-student-government-walks-back-impeachment-of-pro-israel-member\/\"><strong>Tufts Student Government Walks Back Impeachment of Pro-Israel Member<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/this-week-in-campus-insanity-vol-33\/\"><strong>This Week in Campus Insanity Vol. 33<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meyer has pressured the Berkeley Unified School District to provide vaccines for teachers before returning to school, and has argued that learning in a classroom is unsafe because &#8220;real-life children do not keep their masks on.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While his two-year-old daughter was blurred in the video, she can still be seen wearing a mask.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meyer advocates for what he calls the &#8220;gold standard&#8221; in school reopening<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyside.com\/2021\/02\/17\/berkeley-unified-announces-tentative-plan-to-return-to-hybrid-learning-this-spring#:~:text=The%20Berkeley%20Unified%20School%20District,29%2C%20according%20to%20the%20agreement.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">plans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014a hybrid of online and in-person instruction that prioritizes vaccinating teachers over returning students to the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under this plan, preschoolers would not return for any in-person instruction until the end of March. Third-through-ninth graders wouldn&#8217;t return to the classroom until April 12, with high school students in grades 10 through 12 returning the following week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many Berkeley parents have<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radio.com\/kcbsradio\/news\/local\/berkeley-parents-rally-for-reopening-elementary-schools\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opposed<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the plan, which they say is slow and contradicts scientific evidence that it&#8217;s safe to reopen schools. Last month, six lawyers with children in Berkeley Unified School District elementary schools<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyside.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/BUSD-parent-letter-reopening-schools-2021.02.15-.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">threatened<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to sue the district if it refused to reopen schools for full, face-to-face instruction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Multiple studies have found\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">coronavirus transmission in schools is\u00a0<\/span>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/new-study-finds-covid-transmission-in-schools-is-extremely-rare\/\">extremely rare.<\/a>&#8221; CDC director Rochelle Walensky <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/coronavirus\/cdc-teachers-can-go-back-to-school-without-vaccine\/\">said<\/a> last month that teachers do not need to receive the coronavirus vaccine before returning to the classroom.
