This law calls for a 100% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions for all new cars. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/eu-lawmakers-approve-effective-2035-ban-new-fossil-fuel-cars-2023-02-14\/#:~:text=EU%20lawmakers%20approve%20effective%202035%20ban%20on%20new%20fossil%20fuel%20cars,-By%20Kate%20Abnett&#038;text=BRUSSELS,%20Feb%2014%20(Reuters),vehicles%20and%20combat%20climate%20change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-nation bloc agreed to the changes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/europe\/eu-approves-effective-ban-new-fossil-fuel-cars-2035-2022-10-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 2022<\/a>However, the agreement has been formalized. It requires a 55% decrease in vehicle emissions by 2030. The CO2 levels for 2021 were set at 37.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Vans will gain a slight market advantage, with a 50% reduction in their costs by 2030, compared to 2021 levels.<\/p>\n<p>Ford and Volvo had just announced their plans for May 2022 a few months earlier. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/discover\/ford-volvo-cars-and-broad-industry-coalition-appeals-to-eu-to-ensure-all-new-cars-and-vans-are-zero-emissions-from-2035-and-to-establish-mandatory-charging-infrastructure-targets\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">signed a joint correspondence<\/a> Together with 26 other companies, we asked the European Union for a similar plan.<\/p>\n<p>According to EU officials, the EU&#8217;s target of 2035 was justified based on an average vehicle lifespan that is 15 years. This would allow the EU reach net zero emission by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The operating costs of an electric vehicle are already lower than the operating costs of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine,&#8221; Jan Huitema (lead negotiator of the carbon-cutting rules) says it.<\/p>\n<p>Companies with fewer than 10,000 vehicles per year can negotiate lower targets up to 2036. However some companies are willing to enforce this change.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/volkswagen-brand-will-be-electric-only-carmaker-europe-2033-brand-chief-2022-10-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vow in October 2022<\/a> To produce electric cars only in Europe starting in 2033. This is after previously declaring that it would strive for a range of 2033-2035. <\/p>\n<p>Five countries, however, were included in the June 2022 list. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/europe\/five-countries-seek-delay-eu-fossil-fuel-car-phase-out-document-2022-06-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Looking to delay<\/a> At least five years from now, electric-only cars will be the norm. Bulgaria, Italy Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovakia all called for a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2035. This was in addition to the 100% target being extended to 2040. Light commercial vehicles will need to meet 80% by 2035 before they can also be cut completely by 2040.<\/p>\n<p>Officials from Bulgaria had stated that the EU must reconsider the economic cost of switching to electric, and the effects that it would have on the countries that are poorer.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, laws governing electric vehicle chargers in the Union are in negotiations.<\/p>\n<p><em>Like Blaze News?
