Metro<\/a> According to authorities, he was pulled down the platform at a Northern Virginia station by a train.<\/p>\n<p>Metro Transit Police Department, an arm of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, reported that the tragic incident took place just before 1:30 p.m. at Dunn Loring Station, Fairfax County, Virginia, approximately 12 miles west Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Metro riders died today when the dog leash they were carrying got caught in a train door. He was then dragged down Dunn Loring station&#8217;s platform. The dog on his opposite side was safe and sound. The dog, which does not appear to be a service animal, is in police care, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased,\u201d Metro Transit Police said.<\/p>\n<p>Dogs that are not service animals are not allowed to ride \u201cunconfined\u201d on Metrorail and Metrobus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmata.com\/about\/contact\/faq.cfm#faq5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WMATA says<\/a>. \u201cHowever, a pet may be transported on Metrorail and Metrobus, provided it is carried aboard in a secure container from which it cannot escape,\u201d the WMATA website adds.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Truss, a transportation reporter for NBC Washington, said the train operator should have received a notification if something is stuck in a car door. \u201cSo that is certainly troubling,\u201d he added during a news report from the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The deadly incident comes as Metro considers bringing back automated trains, <a href=\"https:\/\/dcist.com\/story\/22\/12\/06\/metro-resume-automatic-train-operation-2009-crash-red-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as early as this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the system was built for automation, Metro\u2019s train operators have manually stopped trains ever since a 2009 crash that killed nine people and injured dozens more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man died on Wednesday after his dog leash got caught in the door of a D.C.
