It is the latest attempt to block these controversial treatments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Vulnerable Child Protective Act,&#8221; Rep. Bruce Skaug (R.) introduced the legislation. It will now be sent to the state Senate. The legislation proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sessioninfo\/2023\/legislation\/H0071SOP.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expands<\/a> A ban currently in place &#8220;female genital mutilation,&#8221; It is a crime to give cross-sex hormones or puberty blocks to children, or to do surgery on them. &#8220;alter the appearance of or affirm the child&#8217;s perception of the child&#8217;s sex.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not allow minors to get tattoos, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, sign legal documents, why would we allow them to make the decision to cut away healthy bodily organs, and open the road to chemical castration at age 12?&#8221; Skaug <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hastingstribune.com\/ap\/agriculture\/idaho-bill-to-criminalize-health-care-for-transgender-minors-heads-to-house\/article_29643225-8dfb-51a7-b0e9-c228cd262ff8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> During a hearing before a committee.<\/p>\n<p>Republican states across the nation are pushing for similar bans against transgender treatments. Florida&#8217;s Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine have banned transgender surgeries and hormone treatment for minors. <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/after-heated-public-hearing-florida-board-of-medicine-confirms-ban-on-transgender-treatments-for-minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Being<\/a> The first state to prohibit the practice was through an administrative process.<\/p>\n<p>Idaho has Democratic representatives <a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2023\/02\/07\/idaho-panel-approves-a-bill-that-would-make-medical-care-for-trans-youth-a-felony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claim<\/a> that the bill was inconsistent with the GOP\u2019s defense of parental rights, alluding to topics such as vaccines and sex education. The bill&#8217;s supporters argued that the bill has far more to do with parental choice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s not that we\u2019re being selective,&#8221; said Rep. Julianne Young (R.). &#8220;What it comes down to for me, is determining what are the appropriate bounds and limits of that parental authority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The state Senate is yet to pass the bill.
