This is a comparison: The suicide rate for boys who answered the same question in 2011 was 14%. (The CDC dropped the transgender \u2014 <em>the \u201ct\u201d<\/em> \u2014 from the acronym because the agency said it never specifically asked about \u201cgender identity.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 70% of these students said they suffer persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness \u2014 that\u2019s just about double the teens who identify as heterosexual. The CDC suggested something called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyyouth\/protective\/school_connectedness.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">school connectedness<\/a>,\u201d which it\u00a0defined as an environment where students feel that adults and peers in the school care about their learning as well as them as individuals. <\/p>\n<p>Ironically, and almost unbelievable, the agency also recommended additional LGBTQ clubs. \u201cquality health education\u201d that\u2019s \u201cLGBTQ+ inclusive\u201d Focuses and information \u201csexual consent.\u201d Or, in other words: More sexual education.<\/p>\n<p>Other Factors<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear if the CDC will have more recommendations in the future, but noticeably absent from the agency\u2019s listed strategies was anything about the mainstreaming of gender confusion (w<em>Apart from encouraging more of it, ell<\/em>), social media use, or the pervasive nature of pornography.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, when social media platforms really expanded, young girls have seen their rates of anxiety, depression, and self-harm rise. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2021\/11\/facebooks-dangerous-experiment-teen-girls\/620767\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research<\/a>\u00a0shows. One, there are places like Instagram and Facebook where girls compare their lives. \u201clikes\u201d Photos to others can magnify body image problems and other insecurities.<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s easy access to pornography, which is no doubt informing the extremely young on sex in the worst ways.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlbt.com\/2023\/01\/10\/most-children-exposed-porn-by-age-12-study-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studies<\/a> have shown that kids as young as elementary school are being exposed to this adult content, with an estimated 15% of kids being exposed before they\u2019re even 10 years old. And of the teens who watch porn on a regular basis, an estimated 83% of them have viewed porn that depicts rape and other violence,\u00a0which is likely tied to the spike in sexual violence experienced by young girls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The numbers make it look really grim. <em>All<\/em> our young people, and until we get serious about what\u2019s really causing these problems, we can expect these trends to continue.<\/p>\n<p><em>National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available for anyone who needs help or is in crisis.
