Illustration of Yusuke Narita, Yale professor and seppuku \/ Wikimedia and yale.edu    <\/p>\n<p>Yale University Professor has stated that Japanese seniors should take part in suicide prevention. &#8220;mass suicide&#8221; To help the country deal with its aging populations, <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/02\/12\/world\/asia\/japan-elderly-mass-suicide.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Yusuke Narato, 37, stated that in 2021 &#8220;the only solution&#8221; Japan&#8217;s elderly are a difficult group to deal with. &#8220;pretty clear.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the end, isn&#8217;t it mass suicide and mass seppuku of the elderly?&#8221; Narita was asked to appear on a Japanese news show. Seppuku refers to ritual self-disembowelment performed by samurai in order to bring dishonor upon themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Japan is not the only country with an aging population. More than one-quarter of its citizens are 65 years or older. In the United States, &#8220;older adults are projected to outnumber kids&#8221; The U.S. Census Bureau will begin collecting data in 2034 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/library\/stories\/2018\/03\/graying-america.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> 2018 In 2018, middle-aged Americans outnumber children.<\/p>\n<p>Recent years have seen Narita make other pro-suicide statements. He pointed out a scene from Midsommar, in which a member of the Swedish cult jumps off a cliff.
