Disney is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/disney-earnings-beat-estimates-visitors-crowd-theme-parks-2023-02-08\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cutting 7,000 jobs<\/a> amidst a budget-conscious plan designed to stave off future economic woes.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix is aggressively canceling shows and cutting projects that seem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-61294978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more woke than profitable.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new study shows how the Biden economy, burdened by soaring inflation rates and sky-high gas prices, is forcing consumers to cut back on leisure time.<\/p>\n<p>Solitaire Bliss, an online gaming company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solitairebliss.com\/blog\/cost-of-entertainment-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surveyed nearly 2,300 Americans<\/a> from Dec. 8-20 on a variety of entertainment-related subjects.\u00a0The results should scare Hollywood, Inc. coming on the heels of a disappointing 2022 year in film.<\/p>\n<p>Two highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2022, 3 in 5 Americans (59%) declined some activities with friends or family because of their budget.<\/li>\n<li>71% say inflation impacted their entertainment budget in 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The survey also showed that consumers are less willing to cut back on streaming-style entertainment. That finding, combined with platforms cranking out new, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/your-place-or-mine-review-chatgpt\/\">feature-length content with major stars<\/a>, also suggests fewer people will be going to theaters this year.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, gas prices are climbing again, and while some economic indicators <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/02\/13\/america-probably-avoid-recession-markets-good-reason-more-upbeaht-imf-chief-kristalina-georgieva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggest modest hope<\/a> for a brighter 2023 other signs portend trouble.<\/p>\n<p>This puts AMC Theatres\u2019 recent announcement in a fresh light.<\/p>\n<p>The theater chain will change the way it sells tickets by the year\u2019s end. Movie-goers will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/amc-theatres-seat-price-movie-tickets-1235319553\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pay more, per ticket<\/a>, if the seat is in a prime theater location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Budget-savvy consumers can pay less per ticket, assuming they want to sit in the front rows or opt for seats at the ends of the theater space.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t know how audiences will greet the AMC plan, nor if other chains like Regal will follow suit.
