Vance<\/a> (R-OH), called Monday for answers about the environmental dangers posed by a train accident in East Palestine by Norfolk Southern. <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>This was earlier in the month.<\/p>\n<p>The derailment on February 3 set off a firestorm that lasted several hours. All residents within one mile radius of the crash were evacuated by local and state officials. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/evacuation-ordered-ohio-governor-warns-major-explosion-could-send-shrapnel-a-mile-from-derailed-train\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">started<\/a> A controlled burning of the chemicals is recommended to reduce the possibility of an explosion. Vinyl chloride, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/company-responsible-for-ohio-train-derailment-issues-list-of-cancer-causing-substances-released\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carcinogen<\/a> This can lead to contamination of water supplies. Five train cars released the substance in massive plumes of black smoke visible in eastern Ohio, and western Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Vance was inaugurated to his first term as a senator last month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vance.senate.gov\/press-releases\/senator-vance-issues-statement-on-east-palestine-train-derailment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a> His office will examine reports from East Palestine residents regarding environmental and health consequences of the controlled burning. \u201cWhile those plumes of smoke are now gone, many questions remain,\u201d He commented. \u201cWe continue to monitor environmental reports from multiple agencies about the quality of the air and water in the region. I have heard alarming anecdotes about contaminated waterways and effects on wildlife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norfolk Southern, along with state and federal environmental authorities have not identified any issues with the water supply. The Daily Wire received a statement from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, indicating that it had confirmed that the \u201cfood supply is safe and the risk to livestock remains low,\u201d Adding that the agency hasn&#8217;t \u201creceived any official reports regarding the wellness of animals related to the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance stated that his team was in contact with federal, state and local agencies. He called FEMA to help first responders deal with the fallout from this incident. \u201cThese firefighters deserve our gratitude for their heroism; they also deserve equipment they need for their jobs,\u201d Vance noted. \u201cLocal officials have also consistently encouraged me to ensure appropriate environmental testing continues. I am focused on that as well. My office will continue to engage with people on the ground, and deal with issues as they arise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norfolk Southern also warned the EPA about the possible release of vinyl chloride. A train car that contains ethylene glycol monobutylether currently has an Anonymous Train Car \u201cunknown status,\u201d Norfolk Southern says that the amount of ethylhexylacrylate in another vehicle is still acceptable. \u201cpending.\u201d While the former substance can cause headaches and nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and other symptoms, the latter was found to be a carcinogen in laboratory studies.<\/p>\n<p>Vance demanded that long-term studies be done on the disaster. \u201ctroubling trend of catastrophic infrastructure problems in our country, and more than a few reports of sabotage.\u201d This comment was made by Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives as they rebuke Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has remained silent about the derailment since more than a week.<\/p>\n<p>This derailment occurred after a Chinese spy plane traversed the United States. Congress passed an emergency intervention to stop a nationwide rail strike and Southwest Airlines&#8217; holiday travel chaos.
