Blanton was facing accusations of abusing both his position as well as government resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter doing our due diligence, the Architect of [the] Capitol was terminated at the President\u2019s direction,\u201d A White House official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/13\/politics\/architect-of-the-capitol-resignation-calls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>, which was applauded both by Republicans and Democrats within Congress. PunchBowl News <a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/2-13-23-biden-to-blanton-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A short White House Letter was published<\/a> Blanton was informed that his firing would take effect at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Blanton, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aoc.gov\/about-us\/who-we-are\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The responsibility for overseeing the operation and maintenance on Capitol Hill.<\/a>, has been facing mounting criticism ever since last year\u2019s release of an inspector general report that outlined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversight.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/oig-reports\/AOC\/2021-0011-INVI-P-Oversight-Post-Final_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A number of misconduct accusations were made<\/a>He misused a government vehicle and squandered taxpayer money among other things. \u201csubstantiated violations.\u201d He was also accused by misrepresenting his status as a law enforcer.<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance under oath before the House Administration Committee, Blanton further stoked the ire of lawmakers when he testified last week about the watchdog\u2019s findings and conceded that he did not think it was \u201cprudent\u201d for him not to drive to work on January 6, 2021, the day when a crowd of people breached the Capitol while Congress met to certify Biden\u2019s victory in the 2020 election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/lawmakers-capitol-hill-architect-misconduct-00081934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to POLITICO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Blanton still denied that he did anything illegal. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/13\/politics\/architect-of-the-capitol-resignation-calls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wholeheartedly reject any assertion that I have engaged in unethical behavior during my service to this country while serving in this particular role, I have taken my commitment to transform the agency\u2019s culture to promote positive workplace for every AOC employee,\u201d Blanton stated. \u201cMoreover, I have fully invested to ensure that I meet the responsibilities and the expectations of this role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>News of Blanton\u2019s ouster on Monday came shortly after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called for Biden to take action if Blanton refused to step down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Architect of the Capitol, Brett Blanton, no longer has my confidence to continue in his job. He should resign or President Biden should remove him immediately,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1625187743918702603\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McCarthy tweets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats in Congress voiced support for Biden\u2019s decision to remove Blanton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter being given the opportunity to respond to numerous allegations of legal, ethical, and administrative violations, and failing to directly respond, the President has removed Mr. Brett Blanton from his position \u2013 a decision I firmly stand behind,\u201d Joe Morelle (D\u2013NY), House Administration Committee Ranking Member, said in a release. \u201cPresident Biden did the right thing and heeded my call for action. I look forward to working with my colleagues to begin a search for a new Architect immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blanton, a former President Donald Trump appointee, was left with seven years of his 10-year term.
