Adams replied that they would have to reapply for the jobs. \u201cjust like everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can reapply for their jobs,\u201d J.R. Giddings interviewed Adams about the fact that many city employees had taken the vaccine despite their initial refusal.<\/p>\n<p>More than 96 percent city workers and over 80 percent of residents were vaccinated against COVID-19 according to city hall. They cited high vaccination rates as the reason the jabs weren&#8217;t mandatory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we didn\u2019t have that vaccine and we didn\u2019t have those mandates, we would have lost so many more lives,\u201d Adams said. \u201cAnd so New York has stepped up. They said, \u2018We don\u2019t want to do it. I don\u2019t want to get injected. I don\u2019t want to do this. This is new.\u2019 But they stepped up anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams observed that while New Yorkers may resent being told what to do, their culture has evolved to accommodate government mandates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo New Yorker wants anyone telling them anything,\u201d He said. \u201cThat\u2019s just who we are. We don\u2019t want to be mandated. We don\u2019t want anyone to tell us to put on a mask. That\u2019s just who we are. So that was a cultural shift in our mindset to say, \u2018We\u2019re fighting this dangerous virus.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams stated that New Yorkers, who rejected the cultural shift but remained unvaccinated throughout, said exactly what they had been doing \u201cjust wasn\u2019t right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so, those who made the determination that, \u2018No, I still want to come into a work environment and I\u2019m not going to be vaccinated;\u2019 \u2018No, I want to still ride the trains;\u2019 \u2018I want to do whatever I want.\u2019 That just wasn\u2019t right,\u201d The mayor spoke. \u201cThey made a decision and the law was on our side that said we could mandate, and so they were removed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams suggested that Adams might have to again make public health mandates for the city and firefighters who don&#8217;t comply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that we\u2019re seeing a normalization of COVID, there may be another time that we\u2019re going to have to do mandates again because these viruses are not going away,\u201d He said it to the radio host.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u2019s comments come while fired unvaccinated city workers continue to fight in court against what they see as unfair dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/25\/judge-tosses-nyc-vaccine-mandate-orders-workers-backpay\/\">October 2022<\/a>A Staten Island judge ordered that New York City workers who had been terminated be reinstated. Since then, the city appealed against the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be penalizing the people who showed up to work, at great risk to themselves and their families, while we were locked down,\u201d Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Ralph Porzio wrote, ruling that the city\u2019s public health department overstepped its authority when issuing the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>In January, however, a judge from the state Supreme Court took office. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/syracuse-judge-rules-ny-states-vaccine-mandate-for-health-care-workers-unlawful-strikes-it-down_4985520.html\">A statewide mandate for vaccines was struck down<\/a> These requirements were imposed on health workers. \u201cnull, void, and of no effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn true Orwellian fashion, the Respondents acknowledge then-current COVID-19 shots do not prevent transmission,\u201d The court opinion was written by Gerard Neri, a New York Supreme Court Judge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York City Mayor Eric Adams February 10, 2010, the City of San Francisco defended the firing city employees who refused comply with COVID-19. vaccine mandateArguments that it \u201cjust wasn\u2019t right\u201d They will decline to have the jab.
