The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the rule.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-epa\">EPA<\/a>) in December.<\/p>\n<p>The EPA\u2019s rule forces heavy-duty truck makers to reduce their trucks\u2019 emissions, and it is more stringent by 80 percent compared to current standards.<\/p>\n<p>A simple majority vote can overturn recently completed rules under the Congressional Review Act. Democrats hold a 51\u201349 majority in the Senate, while Republicans narrowly control the House.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) and 33 other Republican senators believe the Biden administration rule will be difficult to implement. (Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>Senators argued that current regulations have reduced emissions by 98 per cent for modern trucks, compared to trucks built in the late 90s.<\/p>\n<p>New EPA rules are designed to target heavy-duty truck manufacturers and engine manufacturers. They tighten yearly emission limits and change key provisions of existing rules in order to reduce emissions from long-term road usage. These rules tighten testing procedures, regulatory useful lives requirements and emission-related warranties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really important, especially for protecting the health of the 72 million people living near truck freight routes in America,\u201d In December, Michael Regan, administrator of the EPA, stated these words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEPA developed the final rule based on a robust, complete technical record consistent with the authority set forth in the Clean Air Act. [\u2026] The new standards are more than 80% stronger, increase useful life of governed vehicles by 1.5\u20132.5 times, and will yield emissions warranties that are 2.8\u20134.5 times longer,\u201d According to a spokesperson for the EPA, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/02\/09\/gop-senators-move-to-repeal-biden-trucking-rules\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a>. \u201cThis final rule includes provisions for longer useful life and warranty periods. These provisions guarantee that as target vehicles age, they will continue to meet EPA\u2019s more stringent emissions standards for a longer period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd Spencer, President of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, stated that if truckers are unable to afford new trucks, they will either stick with the older trucks or leave the industry altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Separately the EPA plans for next month&#8217;s proposal \u201cPhase 3\u201d There are new emission standards for medium- and light-duty vehicles, as well as greenhouse gas standards for heavy duty vehicles.
