There are elements of his overall focus that both fans and critics find laughable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p>Goodell definitely hit on a lot of serious issues of the modern era \u2013 including diversity efforts, officiating, and player health and safety \u2013 during his news conference on Wednesday. But that\u2019s just one. We had a number of other programs that we\u2019ve put in that I think are going to produce long-term results. Now we all want short-term results, but it\u2019s important to have it be sustainable for the future, and we believe diversity makes us stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about attracting the best talent and giving them the best opportunity to be successful. To me, that\u2019s at the core of what we do. We want the changes to be really fundamental and sound and sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Regarding criticisms of the officiating, most notably in the AFC Championship Game, Goodell defended the league\u2019s referees.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI think for us when you look at officiating, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s ever been better in the league,\u201d Goodell spoke. \u201cThere are over 42,000 plays in a season, multiple infractions could occur on any play, take that out and extrapolate that, that\u2019s hundreds if not millions of potential fouls, and our officials do an extraordinary job of getting those.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre there mistakes in the context of that? Yes, they are not perfect, and officiating never will (be). Globalism. Racism. Black is more valuable than white, or brown, or Asian.
