The bill now heads to the state Senate where Republicans hold a supermajority to vote on it in the next 36 hours.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019 office said that the special tax district, which has allowed Disney to govern themselves since 1967, turned the theme park into \u201can unaccountable Corporate Kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlorida is dissolving the Corporate Kingdom and beginning a new era of accountability and transparency,\u201d DeSantis\u2019 office said. \u201cThese actions ensure a state-controlled district accountable to the people instead of a corporate-controlled kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019 office said that the legislation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Permanently eliminates Disney\u2019s self-governing status.<\/li>\n<li>Imposes a state-controlled, term-limited board \u2014 with members appointed by the governor \u2014 on Disney and its property.<\/li>\n<li>Allows the state to impose taxes on Disney for possible road projects outside of the District\u2019s boundaries.<\/li>\n<li>Ensures that Disney pays the $700+ million in unsecured debt \u2014 not Florida taxpayers.<\/li>\n<li>The Orange County leftist government threatened to take control of the district in order to increase local taxes.<\/li>\n<li>Florida law to prohibit Disney from receiving preferential treatment<\/li>\n<li>Disney cannot gain more land via eminent Domain<\/li>\n<li>This creates an incentive for Disney to support local infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019 office also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wptv.com\/news\/state\/disney-bill-arrives-as-florida-lawmakers-gavel-in-for-7th-special-session-in-1-5-years\">Published<\/a>\u00a0Below is a list listing some of the powers Disney used to have when they were governing themselves.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can be fully self-governing with a Disney-selected board.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to construct airports and nuclear facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Acquisition of property beyond the District\u2019s territory by condemnation and eminent domain.<\/li>\n<li>Unilateral boundary changes<\/li>\n<li>Construction contracts are available for no-bid procurement.<\/li>\n<li>Florida Statute has different operating standards.<\/li>\n<li>Other companies may need to navigate for exemptions from regulatory approvals and reviews.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DeSantis stated this week during a press conference that Disney was the future. \u201cis going to pay its fair share of taxes, and Disney is going to honor the debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s exactly what this proposed piece of legislation will do,\u201d He added.\u00a0 \u201cNow, this is obviously now going to be controlled by the state of Florida, which is no longer self-governing for them. So there\u2019s a new sheriff in town, and that\u2019s just the way it\u2019s gonna be.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Disney is no longer going to have self-government.
