Jamie Raskin (D-MD) seized on a recent report by The New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/26\/us\/politics\/durham-trump-russia-barr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detailing alleged<\/a> problems in Durham\u2019This effort was initiated by William Barr, then-Attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter four years and millions of dollars spent, the Durham investigation closed as a total flop without unearthing anything like the deep-state conspiracy that Republicans have been denouncing around here for years,\u201d Raskin stated.<\/p>\n<p>Durham\u2019s team \u201ccouldn\u2019t find anything of substance to it,\u201d Raskin agreed. \u201cYet Barr and Durham kept pressing in clearly abusive ways. I hope your subcommittee will investigate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raskin was a witness in the first hearing by the Select Subcommittee on The Weaponization Federal Government. He claimed that the panel should resign. \u201cconspiracy theories\u201d A warning is issued. \u201cweaponized MAGA campaign\u201d Focused on \u201crestoring\u201d Former President Donald Trump at the White House Despite Raskin\u2019s assertion that Durham\u2019s inquiry is \u201cclosed,\u201d Publicly, there is no indication that the prosecutor completed his investigation or gave a final report.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Raskin is very critical of the Durham investigation that failed as it shows real weaponization of government.https:\/\/t.co\/HRVi1WYlfs&#8221;>pic.twitter.com\/HRVi1WYlfs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/atrupar\/status\/1623751031883538434?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 9, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/26\/us\/politics\/durham-trump-russia-barr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times article<\/a> Publication last month claimed a long review \u201cflaws\u201d in Durham\u2019s inquiry as well as \u201cinternal dissent and ethical disputes\u201d Some dissatisfied prosecutors quit the team, leading to their resignation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/barr-slams-new-york-times-reporting-on-durham-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barr condemned the report<\/a>, saying the New York Times\u2019 reporters \u201cignored some fundamental facts as to why some of the information that Durham was seeking was very important information.\u201d He also stated that the article was not complete. \u201cobvious reasons\u201d for Durham\u2019s investigation, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2023-02-01\/bill-barr-says-he-didnt-overstep-in-his-involvement-in-the-durham-probe-of-mueller-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the report by The New York Times gave fuel to Durham\u2019s detractors in Congress. Dick Durbin, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee (D-IL). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-democrats-threaten-hard-look-at-durham-inquiry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Threatened an investigation<\/a> House Democrats and Justice Department inspector General to be reprimanded <a href=\"https:\/\/int.nyt.com\/data\/documenttools\/Lieu%20and%20Goldman%20letter%20requesting%20inspector%20general%20investigation%20into%20Barr%20and%20Durham\/d1a1af56f980a928\/full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Start a review<\/a> To determine if Barr or Durham is the best choice \u201cviolated any laws, DOJ rules or practices, or canons of legal ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A particularly shocking section of the article claims that Durham expanded his investigation in fall 2019 to include criminal investigations \u201csuspicious financial dealings\u201d Trump was linked to the tip of Italian officials. However, the report claimed that details were unclear and that Durham was not charged.<\/p>\n<p>Barr retorted that the tip should be retained \u201cwas not directly about Trump\u201d and argued it was appropriate to rope it into Durham\u2019s investigation because \u201cit did have a relationship to the Russiagate stuff. It was not completely separate from it.
