Desperate to assuage their culpable consciences for their part in environmental collapse, they flocked to niche grocery stores and trendy Whole Foods-type chains to snap up the shaped, mashed-up concoctions of fats and gelatinous vegetable fibers that promised to replace Satan\u2019s food stuff and be <del datetime=\"2023-02-08T16:26:19+00:00\">Nearly<\/del> It is also delicious. <\/p>\n<p>The gleeful corporate titans were giddy with delight at the success of their schemes. Global Warming\/Green fever dream-chasing media around the world applauded with glee and did all they could to promote the new movement. <\/p>\n<p><em>I CAN\u2019T BELIEVE IT\u2019S NOT MEAT!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After all \u2013 it\u2019s just a tiny step from manipulated millet Manwich to a roasted roach reduction with endive, right?<\/p>\n<p>They knew they had us. Their soy milk, vegan egg omelet, and soy boy patties converts would be a great source of income for the church. Peer pressure, lack of resources, and peer pressure would make us all bugs.<\/p>\n<p>Welp. It was a funny experience that happened while we were on our way to Phony Baloney World Domination.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how brilliant the packaging, the voluminous research, and the rapturous accolades of an adoring dirty-hippie-at-heart press?<\/p>\n<p>It tastes terrible to most people.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The UK meat substitute market suffered a 6.1% decline in value and 9.3% volume in 2022.
