There\u2019s something different about \u201cMike\u201d this time, though, and it has nothing to do with the star\u2019s workout regimen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMagic Mike\u2019s Last Dance,\u201d which finds director Steven Soderbergh returning to the series, sees Tatum\u2019s character reconnecting with his first love \u2013 stripping for rowdy women. Tatum\u2019s Mike teams up with a rich, estranged woman (Salma Hayek) to re-imagine a stage production with allegedly regressive gender themes.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s your first clue that this \u201cDance\u201d This film is very woke and thoughtful. The focus is on consent and female empowerment, according to the film\u2019s early reviews, not bulky men parading for the pleasure of women and gay men.<\/p>\n<p>This shift seems like catnip for liberal film scribes who cheer on the wake revolution (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/liberal-press-woke-impact-art\/\">Or have been until recently<\/a>). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/magic-mikes-last-dance-reviews-are-in-and-critics-are-not-so-hot-and-a-little-bothered-by-channing-tatums-threequel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">That isn\u2019t the case<\/a>, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>TheWrap.com spits \u201cLast Dance\u201d For its<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/magic-mikes-last-dance-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u201cfaux girl power\u201d spin.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This film tries desperately to be a spectacle, with a tired, fauxfeminist message. This is a lavish love story for an unromantic audience.<\/p>\n<p>The site\u2019s critic suggests the franchise drifts off course with the new saga.<\/p>\n<p>This movie is trying to solve the problem of female empowerment. It&#8217;s like your political cousin turning Thanksgiving into a hunger strike. We all came to this movie with the exact opposite goal in our minds.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Beast gave the film one of its few raves and noted that the film even went as far as to call it the &#8220;The Daily Beast.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/magic-mikes-last-dance-review-a-sexy-and-erotic-perfect-stripper-farewell?ref=author\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In the back seat, you will find the title character.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite its title, Tatum\u2019s Mike plays second-fiddle to Hayek\u2019s Max, an imposing if wounded older woman whose craving for release and rejuvenation (not to mention revenge) is echoed by the old-turned-new show she produces with Mike\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Indiewire offered \u201cLast Dance\u201d A \u201cB\u201d While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2023\/02\/magic-mike-3-review-channing-tatum-salma-hayek-last-dance-1234807336\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mocking its feminist trappings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carolin\u2019s script falls short around this laughable excuse for a feminist aesthetic, in which rich women are empowered by keeping their husbands\u2019 money. Against this backdrop, the movie\u2019s obsession with men \u201cgetting permission\u201d Before touching a woman rings even hollower, like a lesson in consent.<\/p>\n<p>Rolling Stone also reviews this movie<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-reviews\/magic-mikes-last-dance-tame-tribute-to-consent-sexy-channing-tatum-stripper-1234675088\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Patronizing the audience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tame is what Magic Mike\u2019s Last Dance is \u2014 what it apparently wants to be, what it becomes in exchange for its new, cardboard-simple, ostensible pro-woman worldview. The movie\u2019s pleasures mute themselves beneath its good intentions.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s screenplay seems loaded with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/reviews\/23588352\/magic-mikes-last-dance-review-channing-tatum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Polygon, woke whoppers are<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about women. I\u2019m not a woman.\u201d That statement is typical of Magic Mike\u2019s Last Dance And its ideas about what women want: When we finally get to the stage show itself, emcee Hannah (Juliette Motamed) shouts out both \u201ca bad boy who always responds to my texts\u201d and \u201ca CEO who pays women more than men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Variety also finds little to like about the film. <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/reviews\/magic-mikes-last-dance-review-channing-tatum-salma-hayek-1235511356\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Similar themes are wan empowerment.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2018A woman can have whatever she wants whenever she wants.\u2019 Unless of course that woman is watching Magic Mike\u2019s Last Dance, in which case, she can only count on getting a fraction of what she wants, wrapped in platitudes about empowerment and consent.<\/p>\n<p>Box Office Pro predicts \u201cMagic Mike\u2019s Last Dance,\u201d Original <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/magic-mikes-last-dance-release-date-cast-trailer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For an HBO Max release, this money has been earmarked<\/a>It will bring in between $20-30 million to its first weekend.
