The decision was made after several media outlets, both local and national, requested that 911 calls, arrest reports and footage from the police body cam or dash cam be made publicly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the public and press have protectable constitutional interests to access pre-trial proceedings in criminal cases, access to disclosure is limited by the needs of the state to obtain just convictions and to preserve the confidentiality of sensitive information,\u201d the prosecutor\u2019s office said in its petition.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor\u2019s office reportedly invited media outlets to submit Open Public Record Act requests before attempting to block them. Some government transparency advocates called the prosecutors\u2019 move \u201caggressive and unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat sounds like prosecutors gone wild. It is extraordinarily rare for public agencies to affirmatively run to court in order to preemptively deny access to records,\u201d Walter Leurs is an attorney who specializes on the public records law. <a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/investigators-mum-on-sayreville-councilwoman-eunice-dwumfours-slaying-sue-to-keep-records-from-public\">Telled<\/a> Gothamist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a week since Dwumfour, a newly married mother, was found dead in the driver\u2019s seat of her white Nissan SUV after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11710871\/Newlywed-New-Jersey-councilwoman-30-seen-speaking-man-shot-dead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shot<\/a> As many as 14 times she pulled up to Sayreville, New Jersey. Since the deadly shooting, authorities have not made any arrests or revealed any information about a suspect or motive, causing frustration from the 30-year-old deceased councilwoman\u2019s parents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, we haven\u2019t heard anything yet,\u201d Eunice\u2019s father Prince Dwumfour <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/02\/08\/new-video-emerges-from-scene-of-nj-councilwomans-eunice-dwumfours-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telled<\/a> The New York Post, Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>After she was shot, Dwumfour\u2019s vehicle reportedly traveled around 100 feet before hitting two parked cars. The New York Post was later informed by police that Dwumfour was recorded talking to the shooter just moments before her murder. New <a href=\"https:\/\/newjersey.news12.com\/video-shows-person-running-behind-complex-where-councilwoman-dwumfour-murdered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surveillance video<\/a> obtained by News 12 New Jersey appeared to show a man dressed in black running behind Dwumfour\u2019s complex around the same time Dwumfour was killed.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitnesses say they saw the gunman run toward Garden State Parkway after firing multiple times into Dwumfour\u2019s vehicle. Police received a tip about the shooting and searched the woods behind Dwumfour&#8217;s home for the weapon. However, they did not report any results. <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/nj-councilwoman-shot-dead-eunice-dwumfour-sayrevile-murdered\/12765523\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> ABC 7.<\/p>\n<p>Dwumfour won an upset win over her Democratic opponent to be elected to the Borough of Sayreville City Council. Dwumfour was also a part-time EMT, and an analyst in business.
