second address \u201cState of the Union\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8t2FsWGUNZM\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>Address<\/span><\/a><span> Tuesday night, Congress. There were many bipartisan moments, and some points of discussion that were not controversial.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, as with any State of the Union it contained misleading claims and outright lies meant to push a political narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here are 4 misleading claims from Biden\u2019s speech.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Job creation &#038; unemployment\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span>\u201cAs I stand here tonight, we have created a record 12 million new jobs \u2013 more jobs created in two years than any president has ever created in four years. The unemployment rate is at 3.5%, a near-record low. Jobs are coming back\u2026 pride is coming back, because of choices we made the last several years.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span>First, he wasn&#8217;t speaking to Congress or President Biden. Many of them came from private sectors, and many were jobs returning to the state we were in before the pandemic. We now have. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalancemoney.com\/29-months-later-all-the-jobs-lost-to-covid-19-are-back-6542485\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>29 months later<\/span><\/a><span>Just about all of the jobs created before the pandemic were reclaimed. The president takes credit for creating millions upon millions of jobs, which in reality are just returning to the pre-pandemic state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And yes, the unemployment rate is very low, but it\u2019s similar to what it was right before the pandemic. The labor force participation rate is still at a low level.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/research\/economy\/tracking-the-recovery-from-the-pandemic-recession#EPop_LFPR\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>Much lower<\/span><\/a><span> t<\/span><span>The labor force participation rate is lower than before the pandemic. Millions of people remain out of work. If the labor force participation rate had risen to where it was in February 2020<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/research\/economy\/tracking-the-recovery-from-the-pandemic-recession#EPop_LFPR\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>2.6 Million<\/span><\/a><span> More people would be working right now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nevertheless, workers still earn real wages <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joelgriffith\/status\/1623138469156474880\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>are down<\/span><\/a><span> under President Biden after factoring in inflation. There are some positive economic developments, but the reality is not as rosy as Biden portrays.\u00a0<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Results &#038; Freedom from COVID<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span>\u201cTwo years ago, COVID had shut down our businesses, closed our schools, and robbed us of so much. Today, COVID no longer controls our lives.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span>First, COVID didn\u2019t close our businesses and schools, <\/span><b>The government did.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>And while it\u2019s true to some degree that \u201cCOVID no longer controls our lives,\u201d This is it <\/span><b>despite<\/b><span> President Biden\u2019s best efforts, not thanks to them. He has maintained the federal government\u2019s COVID emergency declaration  tried to keep in place both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/biden-admin-officially-withdraws-covid-19-vaccine-testing-rule-struck-down-by-the-supreme-court\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>federal vaccine mandates<\/span><\/a><span> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/doj-defending-mask-mandate-planes-months-biden-pandemic-over\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>air travel mask mandates<\/span><\/a><span>\u2014with them only ending because Biden lost in court. Biden&#8217;s attempt to take credit for COVID not being controlling our lives is a bit ironic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Oh, and don\u2019t forget that President Biden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/bidens-covid-campaign-promises-have-aged-terribly\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>promised<\/span><\/a><span> He would \u201cshut down the virus\u201d if elected\u2026 but more Americans have died from COVID under Biden than did before he took office.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Deficit reduction<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span>\u201cIn the last two years, my administration has cut the deficit by more than $1.7 trillion\u2026 the largest ever reduction in American history.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span>Reality check: \u201cdecrease\u201d The deficit can only be compared to the 2020 peak of COVID-19 which was the highest ever. Biden maintained the second highest deficit in 2021. \u201cdrop\u201d he\u2019s taking credit for. But this drop <\/span><b>Only<\/b><span> Because COVID emergency spending was expired, it happened. It would have <\/span><b>More were dropped<\/b><span> without Biden\u2019s policies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>You don\u2019t have to take my word for it. Try it! <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/09\/politics\/fact-check-biden-deficit-reduction\/index.html\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>CNN<\/span><\/a><span>\u2026 \u201c<\/span><span>The deficit has been <\/span><i><span>bigger<\/span><\/i><span> under the Biden administration than the nonpartisan federal Congressional Budget Office had projected it would be if the Biden-era federal government stuck with the laws that were in effect when Trump left office in early 2021.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/09\/23\/bidens-unwarranted-bragging-about-reducing-budget-deficit\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>The<\/span><\/a> <i><span>Washington Post<\/span><\/i><span>\u2026 \u201c<\/span><span>Biden is bragging about reducing budget deficits even as he increased the national debt about $500 billion more than originally projected.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In reality, the Biden administration\u2019s policies have added more than $4.8 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. Here\u2019s <\/span><i><span>WaPo<\/span><\/i><span>\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/09\/23\/bidens-unwarranted-bragging-about-reducing-budget-deficit\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>List<\/span><\/a><span> Biden policies that will increase the debt:<\/span><i><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Biden\u2019s covid relief bill ($1.85 trillion added to deficits).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Fiscal 2022 spending bill ($625 million).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>The bipartisan infrastructure bill ($370 Billion).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Veteran&#8217;s who are exposed to toxic substances ($280 Billion): Health and disability benefits<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Boosting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Benefits by 21 Percent ($185 billion).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Executive orders relating to health ($175 billion).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>CHIPS Act for expansion of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States ($80 million).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia ($55 billion)<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i><span>Repayment pauses and student loan debt relief ($750 billion).<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>So, Biden\u2019s claim about reducing the deficit is, as he loves to say, malarkey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Gun control &#038; assault weapons ban<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span>\u201cBan assault weapons. Ban them now! Once and for all. I led the fight to do that in 1994\u2026 in ten years that ban was law mass shootings went down. After we let it expire\u2026 mass shootings tripled.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span>Here, President Biden reaffirmed his support for banning \u201cassault weapons,\u201d They claim that this has reduced mass shootings in the past. For context, we should point out that assault weapons are not driving murders in America\u2014only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ucr.fbi.gov\/crime-in-the-u.s\/2019\/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019\/tables\/expanded-homicide-data-table-8.xls\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>Homicides account for 3%<\/span><\/a><span> All types of rifles are included. What\u2019s more, almost all experts and research agree that the 1994 ban on assault weapons did not reduce mass shootings. As I mentioned previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/2022\/05\/29\/what-kamala-harris-gets-wrong-about-banning-assault-weapons\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cCriminologists from Northeastern University <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/270480045_Mass_Shootings_in_America_Moving_Beyond_Newtown\" class=\"stylish-link\"><i><span>concluded<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> that the 1994 ban had \u2018virtually no effect.\u2019 Their research isn\u2019t an outlier. A <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/research\/gun-policy\/analysis\/ban-assault-weapons.html\" class=\"stylish-link\"><i><span>comprehensive review<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> of available research by the Rand Corporation found \u2018no qualifying studies\u2019 showing that banning assault weapons reduced mass shootings or violent crime. Even an <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2018\/4\/3\/17174160\/assault-weapons-ar-15-ban\" class=\"stylish-link\"><i><span>analysis<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> by the liberal outlet Vox admitted that there\u2019s \u2018not much empirical weight behind\u2019 assault weapon bans and that \u2018studies on assault weapons bans have generally ranged from inconclusive to unfavorable toward a ban.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Conclusion<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>It was, overall, a typical State of the Union address. There was a lot of partisan fanfare and some surface appeals to bipartisanship. But, there was also a lot of misleading spin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>You like this article?
