The right side of the aisle responded with raucous booing, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shouting out \u201cliar!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Republican\u2019s visceral response to Biden\u2019s false claim threw the president\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/02\/07\/remarks-of-president-joe-biden-state-of-the-union-address-as-prepared-for-delivery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">off-script<\/a>He began to stumble and lost his words, eventually walking back his entire statement. \u201cThat means Congress doesn\u2019t vote. I am glad you see ya \u2014 no, I tell ya, I enjoy conversion,\u201d stuttered Biden. \u201cYou know, it means that if Congress doesn\u2019t keep the programs the way they are, those programs will go away \u2014 other Republicans say \u2014 I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s a majority of you, I don\u2019t even think it is significant. But it\u2019s being proposed by individuals. I\u2019m not \u2014 politely not \u2014 naming them, but it\u2019s being proposed by some of you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Of course, the reason the president isn\u2019t naming names is that there aren\u2019t any. No Congressional Republicans plan to reduce Social Security or Medicare. This is classic dishonesty.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/11\/02\/dont-fall-for-the-democrats-ginned-up-social-security-scaremongering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrat scare tactic<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The president eventually admitted that he was lying and relented. \u201cSo folks, as we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books now, right?\u201d Biden said this, prompting the GOP&#8217;s triumphant applause. The president had basically abandoned his entire narrative. \u201cAll right. We got unanimity,\u201d continued Biden. \u201cSo tonight, let\u2019s all agree \u2014 and we apparently are \u2014 let\u2019s stand up for seniors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Had the GOP not fact-checked the president in real-time, the propaganda press would likely promote and validate Biden\u2019s lie even further.
