Although the United States provides military support to Taiwan, it does not officially recognize Taiwan as a country.<\/p>\n<p>Chu expressed her hope for Taiwan and China during the August 2019 event \u201cto become one family,\u201d per a DCNF translation. Such a comment would align with the Forums for Peaceful Reunification of China\u2019s opposition to Taiwanese independence.<\/p>\n<p>Chu claimed she was going to Taiwan as the House Speaker in 2022 when Nancy Pelosi (D\u2013CA) planned to visit Taiwan in defiance to China. \u201calways supported Taiwan,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/01\/politics\/nancy-pelosi-taiwan-visit\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.
