George Santos. Some Republicans fear this could lead to the removal of the freshman representative from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEthics is moving through, and if ethics finds something, we\u2019ll take action,\u201d McCarthy spoke to reporters. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re not allowing him to be on committees from the standpoint of the questions that have arisen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to McCarthy&#8217;s statement, McCarthy hasn&#8217;t called on Santos not to resign. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/07\/politics\/house-ethics-committee-probe-george-santos\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>He believes that voters should be able to determine the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Remarks about Santos from McCarthy come on the same day a group of Santos\u2019 constituents planned to travel to Washington, D.C., demanding he resign or be removed by a House vote.<\/p>\n<p>CNN&#8217;s Santos said that he is \u201cnot concerned\u201d Concerning the Ethics Committee investigation and his constituents calling for him to resign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re saying that the freedom of speech of my constituents is a distraction to my work?\u201d Santos asked. \u201cDo you think people are a distraction to the work I\u2019m doing here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Santos refused to resign amid claims that he had lied about his personal and professional life. This includes information regarding his education and work history.<\/p>\n<p>Federal law enforcement reportedly has also investigated Santos for his alleged involvement with a terrorist organization. \u201cGoFundMe scheme\u201d that was set up for a disabled U.S. Navy veteran\u2019s dog.<\/p>\n<p>According to multiple reports and the Nassau County, New York, district attorney\u2019s office, federal and local prosecutors have begun investigating whether Santos lied about finances on the campaign trail.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times reported last week that Brazil&#8217;s law enforcement officials were being investigated by the Times. \u201cintend to revive fraud charges\u201d Santos was charged in connection to an incident that occurred in 2008, involving a checkbook that was allegedly taken.<\/p>\n<p>Santos asked McCarthy to remove him from two committee assignments last week amid multiple criminal investigations.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy would later claim that he had \u201cnew questions\u201d about Santos, CNN reported.<\/p>\n<p>CNN reported that Rep. Marc Molinaro (R.NY) believes his freshman GOP representative should resign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I\u2019ve said consistently, I think he ought to resign and really take stock of himself and start being honest, not only with the people he serves, but with himself,\u201d Molinaro said.<\/p>\n<p>Don Levy, Siena College Research Institute, told a local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5ny.com\/news\/george-santos-house-ethics-investigation\">Fox<\/a> The GOP congressman is facing growing suspicion from his constituents as an affiliate.<\/p>\n<p>A Newsday\/Siena poll found that 78% of Santos&#8217; constituents want him to resign. However, 75% think he is not a competent representative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c89% of Democrats, 72% of independents, and 71% republicans,\u201d Levy added. \u201cRarely do you see numbers that are that aligned.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed Tuesday the House Ethics Committee opened an investigation into Rep.
