This was when Jordan was the top ranking member of this panel. \u201cAs we begin the 118th Congress, we write again to reiterate our outstanding request and ask that you immediately comply in full,\u201d The lawmakers made reference to the fact that Republicans now control the House.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Ledgett and John McLaughlin were also recipients of Monday&#8217;s letters. Some of them were in high-ranking positions within the CIA, while others held higher-ranking positions in other parts the U.S intelligence community.<\/p>\n<p>While the letters don&#8217;t mention subpoenass, Jordan has expressed a willingness for this tool to be used. Jordan had a week last week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/30\/politics\/doj-response-special-counsel-documents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">His first round of subpoenas was issued<\/a> as chairman to\u00a0top Biden administration officials seeking documents related to local school board meetings.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=00000175-4393-d7aa-af77-579f9b330000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=00000175-4393-d7aa-af77-579f9b330000\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\">Note from the 51 former intelligence officers<\/a>\u00a0came out in the days leading up to the 2020 presidential election, warning that reporting about the laptop\u2019s alleged contents \u201chas all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.\u201d\u00a0Although signees insisted they were unsure if emails reported at that time were real and claimed they had no evidence to support Russian involvement, the letter was nonetheless used to discredit the laptop&#8217;s provenance.<\/p>\n<p>POLITICO, who first reported the letter to the police, went beyond what was in the letter. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Publication of a headline<\/a> That was how the ex-intelligence officials claimed the story was. \u201cRussian disinfo.\u201d Then-candidate Joe Biden, Hunter\u2019s father, used the letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house-gop-demand-records-from-ex-intel-officials-about-hunter-biden-laptop-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do not doubt the laptop story<\/a> During one his debates with the then-President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The laptop, which allegedly was abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop before the FBI obtained it, contains details about Hunter Biden\u2019s personal life and financial affairs. The president\u2019s son is now under federal investigation, including over his foreign business dealings and tax affairs, though the existence of that years-long inquiry was not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/hunter-biden-under-federal-investigation\/2020\/12\/09\/3b7361be-3a64-11eb-9276-ae0ca72729be_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The public is informed<\/a> Until after 2020. Hunter Biden stated that he expected to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/big-footing-house-investigation-into-hunter-biden-could-hit-firewall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleared from wrongdoing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2022, the House Judiciary Committee requested materials from 51 intelligence veterans. They made it to the media.
