He was 95.<\/p>\n<p>Whittington\u2019s wife, Mercedes Baker, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/02\/05\/us\/politics\/harry-whittington-dead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to the New York Times, Monday <\/a>After a brief illness, her husband passed away peacefully at their home on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Whittington is a long-standing Austin-based lawyer who was shot in the head and body by Cheney while hunting quail on a sprawling South Texas ranch.<\/p>\n<p>Whittington, now 78, was left with numerous small birdshot pellets, and lost consciousness. His blood vessels were injured and he suffered a minor cardiac attack.<\/p>\n<p>A week later, the victim was still suffering from severe facial discoloration and visible birdshot pockmarks when he emerged from the hospital. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2006\/02\/18\/riddled-cheney-buddy-birdy-harry-shows-his-face\/\">The world was stunned when he made a public apology<\/a> while going to retrieve a shot quail, but in a subsequent interview on Fox News, the vice president took responsibility for what happened, saying, \u201cI pulled the trigger.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure They even went to dinner together earlier in the year.
