The Angels will remain true to their long-standing policy that Ohtani can do whatever is best for his development on his own career path.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not worried about Shohei Ohtani,\u201d Minasian said. \u201cHe\u2019s been in Arizona for a while now. He\u2019s preparing for the season. He\u2019s doing everything he needs to do to be ready to go when the bell rings. He\u2019ll get the proper work in when he needs it. Angels fans are clamoring for their team to sign Ohtani to a long-term deal at any price, while fans from Boston to San Diego are salivating at the prospect of adding the majors\u2019 greatest two-way player.<\/p>\n<p>Minasian deftly avoided any definitive statements about the Angels\u2019 chances of keeping Ohtani beyond this summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we love Shohei Ohtani,\u201d Minasian said. \u201cThis whole organization would like nothing more than to see him here for a long, long time. \u2026 We love the player. We love what he\u2019s about. He has made it clear that he wants to be a winner and the Angels are ready for him. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/video\/jon-heyman-on-mets-chances-to-land-two-way-superstar-shohei-ohtani\/\">Not been winners<\/a> Since the middle of the last decade. But aside from the usual optimism of a fresh season with new signings and the possibility of improved roster health, Orange County fans still have hope because of Ohtani\u2019s loyalty and the Angels\u2019 willingness to allow him to train and to play in any way he chooses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a respect level here, obviously,\u201d Minasian said. \u201cHe chose to play here, and I think that was one of the reasons he chose to play here. We\u2019ve been able to agree on two deals over the last two years, which is not easy to do. There\u2019s a respect and trust level there that I don\u2019t think will change. I think the relationship is outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arte Moreno was open to selling the Angels season during the winter, but decided last month that he would keep the team. Moreno\u2019s departure likely would have brought in a wealthy new owner capable of making a splash by paying top dollar to Ohtani amid a new commitment to winning, but Moreno is also capable of handing out lavish contracts \u2014 even if most of his biggest deals have gone wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Minasian obviously couldn\u2019t speculate on whether Moreno\u2019s retention of the team improved or hurt its chances of keeping Ohtani.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s already invested in this club throughout his whole ownership,\u201d Minasian said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been top-10 in payroll for a long time. I don\u2019t see that changing. Knowing (Moreno) and knowing how much he wants to win, I wouldn\u2019t put anything out of the realm of possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minasian announced that Jared Walsh, first baseman, and pitchers Griffin Canning (and Chris Rodriguez) will be available for a normal spring training. They have been out of action since 2022 when they were injured.
