But, the law didn&#8217;t stop a man carrying an illegal gun shooting three people and one elderly man at a D.C. Metro station last week during morning rush hour. The rampage was stopped by unarmed citizens who confronted him, threw the gun onto the tracks and held him on the platform, until police arrived.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Isaiah Trotman (31), was <a href=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/release\/arrest-made-homicide-inside-potomac-avenue-metro-station-1400-block-potomac-avenue-southeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arrest<\/a> He was charged with first-degree murder. Robert Cunningham (64-year-old Metro mechanic, who tried to protect a woman being attacked) was allegedly murdered by him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Metro bans concealed carry<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>This Wednesday&#8217;s crime spree may provide new support for a lawsuit challenging the law <a href=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/page\/prohibited-places-carry-concealed-firearm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Districts for banning<\/a> carry permit holders from bringing loaded guns on the city\u2019s public transportation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about time we realize that law-abiding citizens have a right to defend themselves and should not be defenseless to a lunatic when riding the Metro,\u201d George Lyon, the attorney for all four plaintiffs. <a href=\"https:\/\/dockets.justia.com\/docket\/district-of-columbia\/dcdce\/1:2022cv01878\/244923\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>District of Columbia v. Angelo<\/em><\/a>In an interview, he told me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this shooting illustrated that the Metro can be a dangerous place,\u201d Lyon added that Lyon&#8217;s firm is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arsenalattorneys.com\/george-l-lyon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arsenal Attorneys<\/a>. \u201cThere is no method of determining if somebody is there for nefarious purposes and carrying an illegal weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lyon filed an amended complaint after the shooting spree was over. \u201cbeef up our claim for standing.\u201d D.C. Attorney general Brian Schwalb has thirty days to respond. Lyon indicated that he could also file for a second preliminary injunction, based on Section 2 of the Constitution to allow lawful carriage on the Metro. This is in light of the horrendous crime. Schwalb\u2019s office did not respond to a request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>D.C. law states that Metro stations, trains and buses are included in the definition of &#8220;Metro Stations, Trains, and Buses.&#8221; \u201csensitive places\u201d Carry only where it is not illegal. Mayor Muriel Bowser <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MayorBowser\/status\/1620820010208722945?s=20&#038;t=rSwcIpjeE6lMfyCY91Qn9g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a> Guns are responsible for the numerous shootings at the Metro.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A reporter asked the mayor questions about the rush hour rampage that has caused people to not feel safe. \u201ccomfortable\u201d Metro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re focused on how we get guns out of our city,\u201d Bowser. \u201cWhether it\u2019s the Metro, it\u2019s the street, it\u2019s individual homes \u2014 we know that we have guns that are creating tragedies in our city and in our nation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Subways \u2018Sensitive Places\u2019<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Angelo and the others filed the suit in June 2022\u00a0after the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in <em>New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen.<\/em> The court made a landmark decision that narrowed the scope of what could be considered to be a &#8220;recorded judgment&#8221;. \u201csensitive place\u201d The ban on guns in certain areas is limited to three locations that have historical context: polling places, legislative buildings and courts. Justice Clarence Thomas made the warning that gun control laws may make other places less safe. \u201csensitive,\u201d They can&#8217;t expand the list of sensitive areas \u201csimply to all places of public congregation that are not isolated from law enforcement.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New York Gov.
