Powered By a href=&#8221;https:\/\/twitter.com\/680aerials?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&#8221;>@680aerials<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1zU1VTAQse\">pic.twitter.com\/1zU1VTAQse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sheila Marie Miller (@21NewsEP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/21NewsEP\/status\/1621742116744400896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 4, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many trains caught fire during the derailment and were loaded with hazardous materials. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconjournal.com\/story\/news\/local\/2023\/02\/04\/train-derailment-fire-cause-evacuation-in-east-palestine\/69873130007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> East Palestine Fire Chief Keith A. Drabick. \u201cIf you have to come to East Palestine, don\u2019t,\u201d He stated. \u201cStay out of the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Norfolk Southern, the train\u2019s operator, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-states\/ohio\/articles\/2023-02-04\/ohio-train-derailment-causes-causes-fire-home-evacuations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More<\/a> 20 of the train\u2019s 100 cars had hazardous materials including \u201cflammables, combustibles, or environmental risks.\u201d The train was headed for Conway in Pennsylvania from Madison, Illinois. The fire and crash have not yet resulted in any deaths or injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the crash remains unknown. However, a team from National Safety Transportation Board will be sent to investigate. Conaway stated that firefighting crews from three states arrived to assist. However, they had to struggle to extinguish the flames because of the frigid temperatures. East Palestine is close to West Virginia and Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Residents (between 1,500 and 2,000) were asked to evacuate. Shelters were set up at the local high school and community centre. \u201cWe\u2019re glad to be here for the community,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmj.com\/story\/48310981\/east-palestine-families-seek-shelter-following-massive-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> Chris Neifer, Superintendent East Palestine City Schools \u201cThere\u2019s really nowhere else to go unless you\u2019re going out of town at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>William Hugar, a local resident, stated to WFMJ that the fire broke out near his house. \u201cWhen the fire started spreading behind my house, I knew it was time to go,\u201d He stated. \u201cPolice came up and told me. I knew it was time to evacuate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ann McAnlis from another local said that she was told of the fire by a neighbor. \u201cAnd my neighbor texted me and she asked me if I knew that there was an accident with the trains. She took a picture of the glow in the sky from the front porch.
