The US government to include Norad, continues to track and monitor it closely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense met with senior Department of Defense officials on Wednesday. I am requesting a Gang of Eight briefing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>Canada also reported Friday that they were monitoring &#8220;a potential second incident&#8221; The surveillance balloon was placed in their airspace. However, they did not disclose who might be responsible. Officials from Canada said that they were working with the US. &#8220;safeguard Canada&#8217;s sensitive information from foreign intelligence threats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Defense\u00a0has said there is no &#8220;significantly enhanced threat&#8221; They could be used to compromise intelligence &#8220;know exactly where this balloon is and exactly where it&#8217;s passing over.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Officials said that there was no risk to commercial flights because the balloon was safe. &#8220;well above&#8221; Higher than the altitude at which civilian planes fly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The balloon is currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.
