The Democrat\u2019s spending came after the Department of Justice ordered Sing Tao to <a href=\"https:\/\/efile.fara.gov\/docs\/6999-Exhibit-AB-20210823-1.pdf\">Register<\/a> In 2021, as a foreign agent to control its influence as a company that has ties with the Chinese government.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hong Kong-based news media company publishes Chinese language newspapers in many American cities, including New York City and Los Angeles. Sing Tao claims it is not dependent on China, but mostly. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2021\/08\/25\/doj-chinese-owned-sing-tao-newspaper-foreign-agent\">publishes<\/a> content purchased from the Chinese company Star Production (Shenzhen) Limited. Sing Tao has been greatly influenced by &#8220;the oversight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/major-pro-beijing-newspaper-registers-as-foreign-agent-in-us_3967251.html?welcomeuser=1\">pro-Beijing<\/a> businessman Charles Ho Tsu-Kwok,&#8221; according to the <em>Epoch Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>While Ocasio-Cortez paid the Chinese foreign agent $1,500 for advertising, Democratic lawmakers Kevin Mullin (Calif.) and Grace Meng (N.Y.), as well as Republican Rep.
