An 11-year-old in Georgia had his\u00a0scalp halfway torn off, half his ear bitten off, and suffered deep puncture wounds on both legs when two pit bulls <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrdw.com\/2023\/01\/07\/11-year-old-hospitalized-after-being-attacked-by-3-dogs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked<\/a> He was riding his bicycle.<\/p>\n<p>In November, there were two pit bulls <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/7-month-old-mauled-by-pit-bulls-inside-dc-home-left-fighting-for-his-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked<\/a> A seven-month-old boy was taken to intensive care by Washington, D.C. after sustaining severe injuries to his skull. The infant sustained a skull fracture and other serious injuries that required surgery.<\/p>\n<p>This is just the beginning of a long list. Many of the victims are young children, but some are adults, and some are even the dog\u2019s owner, who is left heartbroken and bewildered when his pet attacks him. Pit bulls can also be very aggressive, which is a cruel twist. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendstotheforlorn.org\/about-pitbulls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affectionate<\/a> Dogs are affectionate towards humans, which makes them a favourite among dog owners.<\/p>\n<p>However, the breed is controversial.<\/p>\n<p>Critics believe that the dogs should not be allowed to attack people because they are so destructive and can cause death.<\/p>\n<p>The pit bulls were responsible for 33 fatal dog bites in 2019, 69% of all dog bites. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dogsbite.org\/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2019.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> DogsBite.org is a prominent group that condemns pit bulls. Mixed-breed dogs (Rotteweilers) were next in line of death.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 1980,\u00a0Hollywood, Florida became the first locality in the country to crack down on pit bulls after a dog scalped a 6-year-old boy and mangled his face. The city required pitbull owners to have $25,000 personal liability insurance. Two years later, a judge ruled in favor of pitbull owners. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/news\/fl-xpm-1989-12-09-8902140246-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scrapped<\/a> The law stated that there wasn&#8217;t enough evidence to prove pit bulls were more dangerous than other dogs.<\/p>\n<p>DogsBite.org reports that pit bulls are currently regulated in approximately 1,200 U.S. cities. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.dogsbite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/estimated-breed-specific-laws-2021.pdf\">Estimates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sports Illustrated was published in 1987.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vault.si.com\/vault\/1987\/07\/27\/the-pit-bull-friend-and-killer-is-the-pit-bull-a-fine-animal-as-its-admirers-claim-or-is-it-a-vicious-dog-unfit-for-society\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cover<\/a>\u00a0blared, \u201cBeware Of This Dog: The Pit Bull Terrier\u201d With a photo showing a snarling pet dog.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0U.S. Army, Air Force, and Marines currently ban pit bull\u2013type dogs as well as Rottweilers and other breeds deemed too dangerous for base housing.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, pit bulls have many defenders in the U.S. who\u00a0say it is individual dogs, not specific breeds, that are too dangerous to live side by side with humans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll dogs, including pit bulls, are individuals,\u201d the\u00a0American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) said in a position <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/about-us\/aspca-policy-and-position-statements\/position-statement-pit-bulls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a> Pit bulls<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite our best efforts, there will always be dogs of various breeds that are simply too dangerous to live safely in society,\u201d Therefore, laws must be passed that are enforced so that the focus is maintained. \u201cnot on breed, but on people\u2019s responsibility for their dogs\u2019 behavior,\u201d ASPCA.\u00a0Breed-specific laws \u201ccreate the illusion, but not the reality, of enhanced public safety,\u201d The group also added.<\/p>\n<p>2013 was a year in which the Obama White House voted against \u201cbreed-specific legislation,\u201d It can be called \u201clargely ineffective and often a waste of public resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe simple fact is that dogs of any breed can become dangerous when they\u2019re intentionally or unintentionally raised to be aggressive,\u201d The White House <a href=\"https:\/\/petitions.obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/petition\/ban-and-outlaw-breed-specific-legislation-bsl-united-states-america-federal-level-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>\u00a0At the time.<\/p>\n<p>Pit bull supporters hope for a 2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/24299544\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study<\/a> The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association published a study that showed irresponsible dog owners (not breed) were the most common causes of dog bites.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most confusing traits of pit bulls is that their\u00a0vicious attacks\u00a0often seem to come out of nowhere, perpetrated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0278239119312595\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unprovoked<\/a> By dogs who are loved by their owners.<\/p>\n<p>Pit bulls are 48% less likely to attack unprovoked. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4261032\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> to a 2013 study on head and neck dog bites published in the\u00a0American Journal of Otolaryngology.<\/p>\n<p>Critics say that pit bulls can attack suddenly, as they were originally bred to do blood sports like fighting dogs. And not even the most loving owner can love them. \u201cfighting gene\u201d Out of them.<\/p>\n<p>Pit bulls were originally a cross between the muscly Old English Bulldog and the\u00a0quick and\u00a0feisty\u00a0Black and Tan Terrier. Breeders of dog fighting dogs wanted the strength and agility of the bulldog.<\/p>\n<p>The pit bull\u2019s deadly \u201chold and shake\u201d Dog fighting was a good example of the bite method. The dogs will often sustain the attack until they themselves are killed, according to\u00a0Colleen Lynn, founder of\u00a0DogsBite.org.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can\u2019t regulate the breed \u2013 or outlaw the breed \u2013 at the very least pit bull advocates, humane groups and veterinary groups that oppose these regulations, need to start being honest about this dog breed. Genetics in dogs are real,\u201d Lynn spoke to The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>Pit bull owners will not be happy if pit bulls are banned on a large-scale.
