James Comer (R-Ky.), they are.<\/p>\n<p>A letter to DHS Secretaryhttps:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-alejandro-mayorkas&#8221;>Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a>Comer outlined how DHS leadership tried to prevent chief border agents from appearing at the Feb. 7, hearing. But, it later changed its stance after Comer threatened subpoenas.<\/p>\n<p>The House\u00a0Committee on Oversight and Accountability plans to hold the hearing to gather facts from U.S. Border Patrol witnesses. The hearing is\u00a0titled \u201cOn the Front Lines of the Border Crisis: A Hearing with Chief Patrol Agents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comer wrote that he invited the agents\u2019 testimony on Jan. 19 and that DHS \u201cinitially sought to prevent Congress from hearing invaluable testimony from Chief Patrol Agents, believing that DHS\u2019s internal protocols superseded Congressional oversight prerogatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased that the DHS is no longer taking such a position, and will make available as witnesses Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez, Rio Grande Valley Sector and Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin, Tucson Sector,\u201d Comer wrote (<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Letter-to-Secretary-Mayorkas-Accepting-Witnesses.pdf\">PDF<\/a>). \u201cThese two law enforcement professionals also serve as Lead Field Coordinators for the border regions that collectively include Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Comer described the Biden administration\u2019s \u201cradical open borders policies\u201d The cause of the \u201cworst border crisis in American history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStarting on day one in office, President [Joe] Biden and his administration rolled back deterrent-focused policies, halted the construction of the border wall, gutted interior enforcement, pushed amnesty for illegal immigrants\u2014all of which have made it difficult for U.S. Border Patrol agents to secure the border,\u201d Comer stated this in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext week, we will hear firsthand from the Border Patrol about this humanitarian and national security crisis,\u201d He said that Republicans on the panel had committed themselves to holding the Biden administration responsible.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4437319\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/04\/29\/GettyImages-1394254383-1200x800.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4437319\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-medium wp-image-4437319\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GettyImages-1394254383-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"   style=\"display:none\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4437319\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GettyImages-1394254383-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> U.S. U.S. (Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<h2>Republicans Want to Impeach Mayorkas<\/h2>\n<p>Republicans have been critical of Mayorkas\u2019s handling of the crisis at the southern U.S. border, with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) repeatedly calling on him to resign last year, and declaring his intention to investigate and impeach Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mayorkas-articles-impeachment-against-mayorkas\">Fox News<\/a> He plans to file articles of the ahref=&#8221;https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-impeachment&#8221;>impeachment<\/a> against Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-resolution\/8\/text?s=2&#038;r=1&#038;q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22impeachment%22%2C%22impeachment%22%5D%7D\">introduced Articles of impeachment<\/a> against\u00a0Mayorkas on Jan. 9 for \u201chigh crimes and misdemeanors\u201d The House Judiciary Committee was referred.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0text of Fallon\u2019s resolution, Mayorkas is accused of violating his constitutional oath by\u00a0engaging in conduct that is \u201cincompatible with his duties\u201d as secretary of Homeland Security by\u00a0not effectively maintaining operational control over the U.S. border under the \u201cSecure the Fence Act of 2006\u201d\u00a0That requires the Homeland Security Secretary to \u201cmaintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas is the second impediment article. \u201cwillfully provided perjurious, false, and misleading testimony to Congress\u201d During testimony before Congress, April 26 and November 15 of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas is accused in endangering national security through encouraging illegal immigration. He terminated contracts for border wall construction and ended the Migrant Protection Protocols.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with ABC News before Biden visited the U.S.\u2013Mexico border, Mayorkas indicated that he doesn\u2019t plan to\u00a0step down from his position following Republicans\u2019 vows to impeach him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a lot of work to do, and we\u2019re going to do it,\u201d Mayorkas said on ABC\u2019s \u201cThis Week.\u201d \u201cWe are dealing within a broken immigration system that Congress has failed to repair for decades,\u201d He added. \u201cAnd there is unanimity with respect to that reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times reached out to DHS for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Homeland SecurityDHS) will allow two chief border patrol agents to testify before a Congressional hearing on the U.S. Crisis at the borderAfter trying unsuccessfully to \u201cmuzzle\u201d According to Rep.
