But the president\u2019s promotion actually cost the company a pretty penny.<\/p>\n<p>General Motors paid Jeff Ricchetti ($460,000) to lobby Congress and White House for electric vehicle tax incentives. Biden was promoting his administration\u2019s electric vehicle tax credit with Monday\u2019s tweet, which featured a photo of the president behind the wheel of a GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">My watch is that the great American road trip will be electrified.<\/p>\n<p>You can now get a tax credit up to $7500 for an electric vehicle. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/n3iZ9etL4A\">pic.twitter.com\/n3iZ9etL4A<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 President Biden (@POTUS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1620138541937205250?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 30, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s tweet is the latest return on General Motors&#8217; investment in Jeff Ricchetti. In April 2021, Biden hosted a summit with General Motors CEO Mary Barra. He followed that up with a November 2021 visit to the company\u2019s electric vehicle plant, where he first promoted the fully electric Hummer, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/11\/23\/gm-bidens-test-drive-of-electric-hummer-helped-increase-reservations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boosted<\/a> reservations for the vehicle by sevenfold.<\/p>\n<p>Some critics <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidzipper\/status\/1620165707257499650\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned<\/a> why Biden keeps giving &#8220;free publicity&#8221; to the electric Hummer, noting that it is not even eligible for the $7,500 tax credit he cited in his tweet.
