They offered him budget concessions in return for their votes to make McCarthy Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>If serious spending reductions are on the table, they will only support him in his efforts to raise the debt limit.<\/p>\n<p>And, yet, cutting seniors\u2019 insurance programs of Social Security and Medicare is not part of the GOP budget proposal, says McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also insists that McCarthy&#8217;s GOP budget plan does not include raising the age at which an American can begin receiving Social Security benefits.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Extreme\u2019 And \u2018Dangerous\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>But, there are Republican outliers when it comes to matters related to the social safety net.<\/p>\n<p>Lieu suggested during the press conference that Social Security changes are part of the GOP plans. But they are being cautious.<\/p>\n<p>He referred to the comment made by Chairman of House Budget Committee\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/arrington.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jodey Arrington<\/a>\u00a0Recently, (R-Texas), gave a media interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do ask Republicans to show us their plan,\u201d said Lieu. \u201cThe reason that they are unwilling to\u2014is because it\u2019s going to show massive cuts to Social Security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, we also know that Republican ideas are extreme and dangerous. How do we know that? They said it out loud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said a CNBC interviewer asked Arrington\u2014\u201dThe question I\u2019d like to ask you is whether you think this debt ceiling is going to be used as a bargaining chip in a way that could turn dangerous?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRep.
