(Sarah Silbiger\/Reuters)<\/figure>\n<p>The lawmakers cited the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act and Full Faith and Credit Act as examples of effective reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act (initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lankford.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senators-lankford-hassan-introduce-the-prevent-government-shutdowns-act\">introduced by Lankford and Sen. Maggie Hassan<\/a> (D-N.H.) in February 2019, would prevent government shutdowns by setting up an automatic continuing resolution and preventing lawmakers from leaving the nation\u2019s capital until spending legislation is passed.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sens-cruz-scott-toomey-introduce-full-faith-and-credit-act-to-address-federal-debt-crisis\">Full Faith and Credit Act<\/a> was introduced in September 2021 by a group of GOP senators including Cruz, Scott, Braun, and Barrasso. If enacted, it would make sure the federal government prioritizes funding for the military, veterans, and seniors, should the federal debt ceiling be reached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not intend to vote for a debt-ceiling increase without structural reforms to address current and future fiscal realities, actually enforce the budget and spending rules on the books, and manage out-of-control government policies,\u201d the group added.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Criticism<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>In their letter, the group of GOP senators also criticized the Biden administration, saying that the nation\u2019s fiscal policy \u201cis a disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-reaches-debt-ceiling-forcing-treasury-into-extraordinary-measures_4996289.html\">reached its statutory debt limit<\/a> of $31.381 trillion on Jan. 19 and the Treasury Department had to activate \u201cextraordinary measures\u201d to keep the government solvent until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/republicans-take-social-security-medicare-off-the-table-in-debt-ceiling-talks_5020307.html\">early June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur country owes $31 trillion, a level of debt that now well exceeds the size of our economy,\u201d the GOP senators continued. \u201cInflation is making life more expensive for American families every single day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile, your administration is directing federal agencies to continue to spend billions in taxpayer resources, expanding the size and scope of the IRS to go after families and small businesses, policing the speech of Americans on social media, funding equity programs in the military, and pouring money into programs for a pandemic that your administration has declared over.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4866575\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/11\/16\/GettyImages-1244808045-1200x800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-medium wp-image-4866575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GettyImages-1244808045-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4866575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GettyImages-1244808045-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Sen. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>On Jan. 26, Scott, Budd, and Braun introduced the Blocking the Adverse and Dramatic Increased Reliance on Surveillance (BAD IRS) Activities Act. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rickscott.senate.gov\/2023\/1\/sen-rick-scott-leads-legislation-to-stop-biden-s-irs-army-block-democrat-tax-hikes-on-small-businesses-and-gig-workers\/8f04c04f-a706-4b62-80f0-500367f449bd\">legislation\u2019s press release<\/a>, the bill would rescind about $70 billion in funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) appropriated by the Inflation Reduction Act for hiring 87,000 IRS agents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-signs-inflation-reduction-act-into-law_4668664.html\">Biden signed<\/a> the Inflation Reduction Act into law in August 2022, amid concerns that it would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/democrats-inflation-bill-will-absolutely-raise-gas-electricity-prices-for-americans-expert-says_4670191.html\">drive up the price of electricity<\/a> and gasoline and about how much it would really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/only-13-percent-of-americans-believe-democrats-369-billion-in-climate-spending-will-reduce-inflation-poll_4675193.html\">lower U.S. inflation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans are keenly aware that their government is not only failing to work for them\u2014but actively working against them,\u201d the GOP senators said.<\/p>\n<p>Risch, in a Twitter post sharing the letter, said it was time to reduce excessive spending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is not the time to increase the debt ceiling unless Congress takes meaningful action to reduce excessive spending and enforce our monetary policy,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/web\/status\/1620189505323147264\">Risch wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Debt Ceiling<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The letter comes as Biden is scheduled to meet with House Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-kevin-mccarthy\">Kevin McCarthy<\/a> (R-Calif.) on Feb. 1 to discuss spending and debt limit.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, McCarthy told CBS News\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d that cutting Social Security and Medicare was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/speaker-mccarthy-cuts-to-social-security-medicare-are-off-the-table_5018550.html\">off the table<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, if you read our commitment to America, all we talk about is strengthening Medicare and Social Security.
