A new study shows that black Americans have three times the chance of being audited by IRS than other groups.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Economists from three universities and the Treasury Department found that IRS computer algorithms select unjustly black taxpayers for audits. This was despite having controlled for &#8220;differences in the types of returns each group is most likely to file,&#8221; The <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/31\/us\/politics\/black-americans-irs-tax-audits.html?smid=tw-nytimes&#038;smtyp=cur\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This study is coming after Congress Republicans voted to reverse nearly $70 Billion in funding that was pushed forward by the Biden Administration to expand the federal government. People earning less than $25,000 were the most likely to be audited.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Congressional Budget Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/small-businesses-freelancers-fear-irs-agents-target-them-first-hurts-smallest-among-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/small-businesses-freelancers-fear-irs-agents-target-them-first-hurts-smallest-among-us&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1675285910075000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3ov6BLKdx_UBMLrPBOr6HJ\"><\/a> upwards of 78 percent of revenue from new audits under Biden\u2019s Inflation Reduction Act would be from families pulling in less than $200,000 per year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The IRS will likely be looking for simple audits to perform. <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/31\/us\/politics\/black-americans-irs-tax-audits.html?smid=tw-nytimes&#038;smtyp=cur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/31\/us\/politics\/black-americans-irs-tax-audits.html?smid%3Dtw-nytimes%26smtyp%3Dcur&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1675285910075000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3nQ7Ibmik1rNjSAq7EDVyK\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>According to the researchers, I.R.S. The researchers suggest that the I.R.S. has focused on easier audits and, as a consequence, audits disproportionately a historically disadvantaged group than other taxpayers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Republican-controlled House passed a bill in its first day under Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) to reverse the nearly $70 billion in funding for mass hiring at the agency. To pull the funding, Rick Scott (Republican senator from Florida) introduced a similar bill to the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Last week, the White House stated that it would sink the &#8220;reckless&#8221; GOP bill to defund hires.
