Following the incident, he was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and child endangerment. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-01-03\/tesla-driver-arrested-california-cliff-crash-called-intentional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">incident<\/a> He was arrested earlier in the month. He was not actually charged until he was released and placed in jail.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the San Mateo County District Attorney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.twitter.com\/SanMateoCoDA\/status\/1620500672730005504\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> Page, he has been \u201ccharged with 3 counts of attempted murder and enhancements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Patel\u2019s two children and wife, Neha Patel, survived the fall and have also been discharged from the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Neha Patel told emergency personnel on the spot that her husband was plotting to kill the family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Stephen Wagstaffe was the San Mateo County District attorney and told The Times on Monday that Neha had spoken. \u201c\u2018He intentionally tried to kill us,\u2019\u201d To the first responders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cA couple of paramedics rappelled down the side of the cliff and as they were helping her out, she said in a very loud voice, to the effect, \u2018He tried to kill us, he intentionally tried to kill us,\u2019 \u201d Wagstaffe\u00a0also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/tesla-driver-charged-attempted-murder-allegedly-plunging-family-califo-rcna68173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> To NBC News Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cShe said very simply this was not an accident,\u201d Wagstaffe said that although Neha had not been contacted by the prosecution, they still had sufficient information to bring forward the charges. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe hope that, when her health improves, she would be able to give us a statement,\u201d Per NBC, Wagstaffe claimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">To support their charges, the prosecution has several key materials.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They have tunnel footage which reveals Patel \u201cmaking a sharp right turn over the cliff,\u201d Wagstaffe said so. The team has also discussed the event with two witnesses who were in vehicles behind the Patels\u2019 car and will state that they did not witness the Tesla try to stop prior to careening over the edge, he stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe have concluded that the evidence supports the fact that he intentionally drove his vehicle over that cliff, thereby obviously endangering not just his wife and two children but his own life,\u201d Wagstaffe said at a press conference Monday after Patel\u2019s first court appearance. Patel is currently being held without bail.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Patel was a radiologist who lived in Northern California. His alleged actions are not supported by the fact that he was radiologist. <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/crime\/neighbors-left-confused-after-great-guy-drove-tesla-off-cliff-with-idyllic-family-inside\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stunned<\/a> People who knew him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThey\u2019re a beautiful, idyllic family, no indication of issues,\u201d Roger Newmark, a neighbor. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-01-04\/the-family-at-the-end-of-the-cul-de-sac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telled<\/a> The Times \u201cIt\u2019s so strange because he is a great guy. Maybe it was a moment of insanity.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cHe\u2019s just so present,\u201d Sarah Walker, another neighbor, shared her experiences with the family. \u201cDharmesh and I would wave \u2018Hi,\u2019 but he would always come over and have a conversation.
