He has been charged for second-degree killing while armed.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis insists on his innocence \u201cWhile this is certainly a tragedy, once all the facts are heard, I believe that a jury will find that there was no crime here,\u201d In a statement, Lee Smith, his attorney, said that he was innocent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/washington-dc-employee-accused-killing-teen-turns-police-rcna68355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report by NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee and court documents divulged new details about the deadly incident outside Lewis\u2019 home in the Brookland neighborhood at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, January 7.<\/p>\n<p>Police say Lewis heard strange noises and saw someone who looked like he was. \u201ctampering\u201d With cars. In the subsequent interaction with \u201cyoungsters\u201d Authorities claim that Lewis, wearing black, walked outside with a legally registered firearm and shouted at them. \u201cHey! What are y\u2019all doing?\u201d Lewis was on his property when he shot at a \u201cgetaway vehicle\u201d Blake should have fired before anyone else. \u201cran toward\u201d Contee spoke during a news conference. According to the police chief, it was not clear if Blake knew Lewis was there.<\/p>\n<p>Blake shouted out, even shouting of \u201cI am sorry,\u201d Also available: \u201cI am a kid\u201d  \u201cI am only 12,\u201d According to an affidavit. According to an affidavit, authorities previously stated that Lewis had performed CPR on Blake following the shooting, but Blake succumbed soon thereafter at a hospital. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcwashington.com\/news\/local\/man-who-shot-killed-13-year-old-karon-blake-is-dc-government-employee-mayor\/3252461\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC Washington Reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Officials did not immediately identify Lewis as a shooter during the following weeks, but Mayor Muriel bowser confirmed that the shooter was a D.C. government employee and was placed on administrative leaves. The authorities also rejected a wave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/dc-government-employee-shot-and-killed-13-year-old-karon-blake-says-dc-mayor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cmisinformation\u201d Allegations<\/a> It was all about race. The shooter was a black male.<\/p>\n<p>Contee is now asking other juveniles that were spotted fleeing to the scene to come forward. \u201cThis young man shouldn\u2019t be dead. But, he is, and now again we have to go through the course of the judicial process,\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>A grief-stricken community <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcwashington.com\/news\/local\/the-nicest-boy-in-my-class-community-holds-vigil-for-karon-blake-13-year-old-fatally-shot-in-dc\/3255218\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Held a Vigil<\/a> Blake and other locals protested the use force earlier in this month. \u201cProperty is not greater than life. Karon should be alive today,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chenderson\/status\/1612465758751055876\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christina Henderson, D.C.
