He is also a former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/30\/the-left-wants-to-take-your-truck-because-its-big-and-scary\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=the-left-wants-to-take-your-truck-because-its-big-and-scary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">op-ed<\/a> on Monday about the left\u2019s ongoing war on \u201cbig and scary\u201d Pickup trucks first draw a contrast between right to bear arms and ownership of truck.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Unlike with the right to bear arms, there is no constitutional amendment protecting our right to own vehicles \u2014 other than a generally recognized right to move about freely (Crandall v. Nevada, 1867) \u2014 and, with almost all roads owned by the government, this could become a problem.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing campaign against this is now underway \u201cBig Truck\u201d \u2014 or, as we call them in Texas, simply \u201cmy truck\u201d \u2014 is bound to lead to additional restrictions to \u201csave the planet\u201d  \u201csave the children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest push against large pickup trucks takes two basic forms: They\u2019re large and scary and hurt people, and they\u2019re bad for the environment, especially with people not really needing them for anything practical.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s not forget the genius deviousness of\u00a0 \u201cclimate activism\u201d gives the left \u2014 in their loony minds \u2014 the right to attack or attempt to ban anything and everything they ridiculously decide contributes to anthropomorphic climate change \u2014 pickup trucks included.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here\u2019s a perfect example (emphasis, mine):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Crashes killed <em><strong>16 children<\/strong><\/em> under age 18 during the first nine months of the year \u2014 at least 23% higher than any full year under Vision Zero, and five more children than were killed in all of 2021.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>13 people were killed by large vehicles, such as pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans.<\/strong><\/em>Buses or?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What is the message? You do. It&#8217;s there. \u201cassault trucks,\u201d \u201ctrucks of war,\u201d It&#8217;s all there. I don\u2019t own a large pickup truck \u2014 yet \u2014 but if these pearl-clutching busybodies don\u2019t mind their business, I\u2019m sorely tempted to go out and buy one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I do not own a pickup or truck. Coincidentally, I have more than a few good friends. <em>Do<\/em> \u2014 and most of their rides are pretty sweet. Amazing tires and big V-8s \u201cscary\u201d Grills; everything. But, along with Chuck DeVore, I\u2019ve considered buying one.
