Nichols and five other former officers of police charged with his murder are both black. Nichols was arrested by police on January 7. \u201creckless driving\u201d Near Raines Road in Memphis and Ross Road.<\/p>\n<p>Police claimed that during the stop, a \u201cconfrontation occurred,\u201d At that point, Nichols fled police on foot while they tried to apprehend.<\/p>\n<p>Surveillance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/body-cam-footage-released-showing-incident-between-police-and-tyre-nichols\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Footage<\/a> The incident was allegedly shown by five police officers who beat Nichols after they caught up to him. They then placed him in handcuffs.<\/p>\n<p>The number of officers who have been disciplined is now seven, after the Memphis police officers were relieved of their duties.<\/p>\n<p>Two counts of official misconduct have been filed against officers Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley and Emmit Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith, according to local media reports. One count each of official oppression and second-degree murder, aggravated attack-act in concert and two counts each of aggravated kidnapping.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tyre-nichols-memphis-police-officer-suspended-179a49b0e8b1c6494af2e6408581d47f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the\u00a0Memphis Fire Department officials announced on Monday that they had fired three emergency medical technicians that responded to the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office opened an investigation into two of its deputies after the body camera footage was released on Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving watched the videotape for the first time tonight, I have concerns about two deputies who appeared on the scene following the physical confrontation between police and Tyre Nichols,\u201d Floyd Bonner, Jr. Shelby County Sheriff\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/tennessee-sheriff-opens-new-investigation-two-deputies-tyre-nichols-bodycam-video-release\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>.\u00a0\u201cI have launched an internal investigation into the conduct of these deputies to determine what occurred and if any policies were violated. Both of these deputies have been relieved of duty pending the outcome of this administrative investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steve Mulroy, Shelby County District Attorney, said Monday that any person involved in the events leading to, during and after the beating Nichols could face additional criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes the officer present at the initial encounter who has not \u2014 so far \u2014 been charged, Memphis Fire Department personnel, and persons who participated in preparing documentation of the incident afterward,\u201d the district attorney\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shelby-county-d-a-says-all-individuals-involved-in-tyre-nichols-confrontation-could-face-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Brandon Drey contributed this report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two more Memphis Police Department officers have been relieved of duty following the death of Tyre Nichols earlier this month.
