Durham claimed that he once extended his investigation to include an investigation into \u201csuspicious financial dealings\u201d Trump was involved, but the report stated that the details of the investigation are not clear and did not lead to Durham being charged.<\/p>\n<p>Some people were skeptical about the story. Chuck Ross, investigative reporter at The Washington Free Beacon. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckRossDC\/status\/1620139596880424960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The assumption was that \u201cflimsy\u201d<\/a> New York Times Story will give Democrats the opportunity to award Attorney General Merrick Garland an Award \u201cexcuse to block Durham\u2019s report, or frame it negatively for the media if it\u2019s released.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durham has so far secured one guilty plea. That of Kevin Clinesmith, an ex-FBI lawyer, who was accused falsifying a document to renew FISA surveillance powers on Carter Page, Trump&#8217;s former foreign policy advisor. Clinesmith was released from prison and could face a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/fbi-lawyer-clinesmith-one-year-bar-suspension-guilty-plea-fisa-deception\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one-year bar suspension<\/a>. This year, Durham endured setbacks when prosecutions against former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann and Igor Danchenko, a key source for British ex-spy Christopher Steele\u2019s anti-Trump dossier, ended in acquittal in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever Durham\u2019s report is complete, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/obama-doj-official-durham-report-pause\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garland has spoken<\/a> He would \u201clike as much as possible to be made public,\u201d However, he stressed that Privacy Act concerns will need to be addressed and that classification is something to consider.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many years later, special counsel was still in existence.
