The measure was introduced by Republican Dels.<a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?231+sum+HB2432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 2432<\/a>) would provide parents with greater oversight into their children\u2019s lives at school and increase transparency in public education. A summary of the legislation states that a school official can be fired if they are not satisfied with their performance. \u201chas reason to believe\u201d A student is a person who has the ability to communicate with others. \u201cis self-identifying as a gender different from the student\u2019s biological sex,\u201d This official is required \u201cto contact as soon as practicable at least one of such student\u2019s parents to ask whether such parent is aware of the student\u2019s mental state and whether the parent wishes to obtain or has already obtained counseling for such student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill bars school administrators, including counselors and clinical social workers. \u201cencouraging or coercing a minor to withhold from the minor\u2019s parent the fact that the minor\u2019s perception of his or her gender or sex is inconsistent with the minor\u2019s biological sex\u201d Or \u201cwithholding from a minor\u2019s parent information relating to the minor\u2019s perception that his or her gender or sex is inconsistent with the minor\u2019s biological sex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?231+vot+H0901V0041+HB2432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subcommittee vote<\/a> It was a great experience <a href=\"https:\/\/virginiageneralassembly.gov\/house\/members\/members.php?id=H0312\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Party lines<\/a>Five Republicans voted in favor, while three Democrats voted against.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Sage\u2019s Law, HB 2432 was introduced after it was revealed that a then-14-year-old Virginia girl ended up in the hands of sexual predators after her school failed to disclose her gender dysphoria to her mother. He was subject to intense bullying at school. Sage fled and was eventually found. \u201cfound nine days later in Maryland, a victim of sexual assault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Appomattox County High School, which affirmed Sage\u2019s new \u201cidentity\u201d Without notifying her mother she was following the model guidelines of then-Democratic Gov. During her testimony, Sage\u2019s mother Michele called on the subcommittee to put commonsense before ideology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I had known [what was going on], this would be a much different story. [Sage] was terribly bullied, but no one told me,\u201d Michele <a href=\"https:\/\/virginiageneralassembly.gov\/house\/committees\/commstream.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>. \u201cPlease don\u2019t let ideology harm another child. Let parents do our jobs.
