He also added \u201ca full investigation is warranted to encourage and preserve public trust in our elections, including recommendations for reforms to benefit the conduct of contests statewide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Numerous municipalities in Monmouth County on the coast of central New Jersey were affected by tabulation problems. These problems were only discovered during an investigation by the Board of Elections into an unrelated matter. <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/local\/vote-machine-tabulation-error-shifts-one-local-race-in-monmouth-after-irregularities-discovered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New Jersey Globe reported earlier in this month<\/a>. But, the news blog continued with another report. <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/local\/n-j-election-officials-knew-about-voting-machine-issues-in-november\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Notifications were sent to the county officials<\/a> About November&#8217;s voting machines.<\/p>\n<p>Although multiple towns were affected by the vote, only one race, the Ocean Township Board of Education race, was close enough that double voting could have flipped the results. Steve Clayton (an ex-board member) won the election by 20 votes over Jeffrey Weinstein. <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/campaigns\/n-j-county-seeks-recount-after-voting-machines-double-counted-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Informal tally<\/a> Weinstein was voted ahead by just one vote.<\/p>\n<p>On January 20, Platkin joined hands with officials from Monmouth County in asking a judge to permit a \u201cfull recount and recheck\u201d The affected communities are: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/20\/politics\/new-jersey-attorney-general-emergent-application-recount\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. Clayton assumed office this month, although he acknowledged that final results could change. \u201cI\u2019m a board member until I\u2019m not a board member. My main concern is the integrity of the election and that whoever ends up taking the seat, the people have confidence in the outcome,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.app.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2023\/01\/19\/ocean-township-nj-school-board-race-may-flip-after-election-error\/69818554007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to him, the Asbury Park Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The county\u2019s voting machine vendor, Election Systems and Software (ES&#038;S), blamed \u201chuman procedural error\u201d For what it called an \u201cisolated incident.\u201d A technician, who was sent over the summer to investigate reports of slow performance in the county\u2019s internal network, \u201cexcluded a step\u201d That \u201coptimizes the system database and ensures USB flash media cannot be read twice during the results loading process,\u201d An ES&#038;S spokesperson stated.<\/p>\n<p>Platkin indicated that Patterson, Belknap, Webb, and Tyler LLP were retained by his office on a non-profit basis by the Division on Civil Rights in order to investigate whether anyone or entity was involved in any unlawful conduct as defined under the New Jersey Civil Rights Act. Peter Harvey, a former\u00a0New Jersey attorney general and federal prosecutor, was picked to lead the investigation. Harvey brings \u201cimmense experience in civil rights matters and overseeing complex and sensitive investigations,\u201d per the attorney general\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Officials from Monmouth County <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/state-government\/n-j-attorney-general-to-probe-ess-vote-tabulation-errors-that-caused-some-22-election-results-to-be-double-counted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">They support<\/a> New Jersey attorney General to investigate the election software issue. The state was urged to implement reforms.
